Yeah the set did get messed up after the 2nd alien (Aliens) so if they changed ti to alien 3 it could have also been alien the prison world so it is messed up

Well, I'm going to start with the Irate Gamer's complaints against Super Mario Bros 2 North America. Yes, I know I'm stepping on flamewar territory here.
The Irate Gamer complained that Super Mario Bros 2 was too different compared to the rest of the series. But, pretend SMB2 just came out. What rest of the series? There's the original SMB, but it's okay for a sequel to be a little bit different, and after all, it's still a side scrolling platformer.
Then he (the Irate Gamer) pointed out that the SMB2 in North America is just a repackaged Doki Doki Panic. True, not the best idea, but I certainly had more fun with SMB2 NA than I would have with SMB2J, it's a great fucking game.
The Super Mario Bros. 2 North American release really is part of the Super Mario Bros. series, regardless of it being Doki Doki Panic made to look like a Mario game. It's characters are used in later Mario games, like Super Mario RPG and Super Mario 64.
Okay, now to explain the order of the Mario games.
Mario Bros. (The original arcade game, not a series)

Final Fantasy 4 was released here as FF2 yes, but what we got was the "easy version" of FF4. In Japan there were two versions of FF4. Regular and Easy type. We got an altered Easy type.

Yeah, there are just too many SF2 titles. I guess that's where the developers of Pokemon got their idea of making one new edition after another. The first time I got Street Fighter Alpha 2, I thought it was some kind of SF2 sequel, but in reality it was the sequel of a prequel of SF2 which is also a sequel to the first SF...WTF?!
And being a German, I also have quite a lot of experience with confusing titles. For example, some publishers seem to like giving English movies German titles that sound horrible. Just about every Bud Spencer movie has a German title so stupid that you would never even think about watching them. Well, not that I watch 'em anyway...^^
At least we have the same titles for the Alien movies. I'm not so sure with Halloween, but I guess they tend to use some clichè subtitles (the German ones have subtitles like "Curse of Michael Meyers" or "Revenge of Michael Meyers" if you translate them ^^ )
Nacked Gun...Well, we have the same titles - (well) translated and without subtitles for 2 1/2 and 33 1/3...
It's the Rocky series where the problems start:
Before Rocky III was released in Germany, they had the same titles as the English original. But when Rocky III hit your cinemas, the turned the Roman III into a 3 and added a subtitle ("The Eye of the Tiger" in English). Rocky IV's Roman number was left untouched, but they added a subtitle ("Fight of the Century" if translated). After that, it's just like the original titles. Why the German Rocky III is the only title with Arabic numbers is beyond me...
German Rambo titles are rather interesting. I guess by the time "First Blood" was released here, "Rambo: First Blood Part 2" was already released in the USA. Cause for some reasons, "First Blood" is called "Rambo" in Germany, with the next title called "Rambo 2 - Der Auftrag" (the only Rambo with a subtitle) and so on. At least it gives the series a better consistency, cause "Rambo: First Blood Part 2" sounds like a sequel which created another line of sequels ^^
But then it got really ugly: As you all know, the last Rambo movie is simply called "Rambo". Here in Germany, we couldn't call it that way since the first movie of the series is already called "Rambo". Of course, we could've called it "Rambo IV", but instead, we called it...
No, I can't do it! The AVGN will hate me forever if he finds out that "Rambo" is called "JOHN RAMBO" in Germany...Oh, dammit XD !!

But the Nake gun series is only made of 3 exsisting movies :) They only made thouse strange numbers to fuck with your head, and i'd say they did a pretty good job :D You've probably already been told this.
