The Lancer is definitely a worthy addition to the Armory. However, I also think the following weapons should be added:
1) Hard Knuckle (Mega Man 3) - It dominated the giant snakes in Snake Man's level.
2) Rift Inducer (Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal)
3) R.Y.N.O. (Ratchet and Clank)
4) Megaton Hammer (Ocarina of Time) - You use it to fight a fire dragon. Utterly awesome

If you're gonna go all oldschool and hit up the granddaddy of all arsenals that is the Blue Bomber, might I suggest either the Metal Blade or the Shadow Blade? Sure, nothing like detaching your hand to punch a guy from a half-mile away, but the Blades attempted to make up for some weird defect in Megaman's head that kept him from the always useful (and seemingly simple) skill of shooting UP. Multi-directional fire FTW.
As for Link... this one has a toss-up, too. The boomerang, not only because of its versatility, but also its ubiquitousness as the series progressed, makes it quite the addition. But then there's the oft-overlooked Link's Awakening, which allowed players to DE-equip the sword to make use of more than one item. One day, I wanted to see what would happen if I combined the Bow with the Bomb. Yeah, that's right bitches: Rocket Launcher. Medieval RPG-7 FTW.

The Lancer is in no way new or innovative. in fact, a machine gun with a chainsaw for a bayonet has been around since at least the early 90's. Look no further than the tabletop miniatures game Warhammer 40,000. The chaos marines use a machine gun with a chainsaw bayonet (Called a bolter), and always have, since they were introduced to the game. Not only that,but the rounds fired by this machine gun were explosive rounds. So yes, the Lancer is cool and fun, but it is not new or innovative, as it was out there quite some time before Gears was even on the drawing board.

You may be right, and god do I love the Warhammer 40,000k universe, but the question is. What game do you know of that allows you to charge at the enemy and saw them in half whilst still being kick ass as a normal weapon?
These are after all collections of weapons in video games, not weapons from anywhere :S

lol i do love the gun but its pretty hilarious when u are 6 feet away and it cuts them anyway... there was only one cut that accualuy looked like it was real in this entire skit.

one time I was trying to demonstrate it to a friend for the sheer satisfaction, and I chainsawed four people in a row during a round in the Mansion map. it was hilarious. I definitely got some angry words from the Locust side.

I down personally own GOW but I've played it many times. How is the saw "Cheap" online? That doesn't even make sense to me. Okay, basically it's the exact same as a knife in COD4 just a lot cooler.
