Aw man...I miss the idea of Game Genie. This CotW actually calls attention to the fact that gamers just don't have anything "out of the box" like that to enhance their gameplay unless they dish out extra cash for DLC or grab some illegal hack. Even though I never owned one, whenever I went over a friend's house that had Game Genie, it was always a blast punching in some code to take down an old game in a whole new way.
Y'know what other add-on idea was genius but never seemed to catch on for some strange reason? Sonic & Knuckles. Listen up, new skool: not only did it expand Sonic 3, but it retroactively expanded Sonic 2 by slapping Knuckles in there, which almost seemed like a gaming paradox considering that Sonic 2 at least seemed to be made before Knuckles was even conceived. What's more, if you shoved virtually any other Sega game into S&K's top loader, you would unlock oodles of orb-collecting orgies!
Honestly...how great was that? Can you name any other game on any other system that is capable of interacting with OTHER games like that? I'm far more of a Nintendo nut than a Sega fanboy of old, but I still have to hand it to Sega for that glimpse of genius. Think of it: what would it be like if you could somehow plug something like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption into Metal Gear Solid 4?

Funniest trick was in SMB1 you could make Mario/Luigi jump super high and you could jump over the flagpole, and you would run like you were in a Scooby-Doo cartoon with the background being the same three frames over and over. Until you ran out of time and died.
