upon reflection it actually wasnt all that bad, 95% of us view this performance as retarded but then again they arnt targeting the vast majority of us who are teenage boys, Nintendo lately has been largely targeting the minorities as a whole, little kids, teenage girls, and older adults, trying to get them into gaming, and lets not forget that here in the U.S. Microsoft is the big guy on top whereas in Japan its home field for Nintendo and what might not be popular or cool here, is HUGE over there, Japan entertainment is famous for wacky crazy over the top silly stuff like this performance

after understanding watch japanese entertainment is all about perhaps the outcome of nintendo's perfermance was exactly what they were planning since their priority audience is mainly in Japan and their performance is mainly for them, so as we may be seeing it as their ultimate fuck up, perhaps it really isnt, whos to say such a performance wouldnt get ur parents interested in nintendo as well, perhaps, crazy hilarious Japanese marketing techniques are the key to access the minority audiences

Well, to an extent, I agree. I live in Japan, and what is popular here among gamers is the PS3. It's like the XBOX360 in the States. Nintendo is mostly popular for the DS here. Though the Wii is selling great, true gamers go for the PS3. So, as you said, they are focusing on another market, which is like a slap to the face to those of us that have grown up playing Nintendo games and had enjoyed Mario, Metroid, etc. This crap with the Wii Music just made me feel like they are not even trying to keep my attention anymore.
But again, you can't expect Nintendo to be able to shell out another Mario game or Zelda game for us to purchase every year. One thing I like Nintendo for is that their franchise games usually have some standard of excellence they try to follow and I think waiting for a game instead of going for a hurried release is much better for both the gamer and company (Zelda TP as one example) Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend this performance and Nintendo should have definitely thought of the American gaming audience a little more and released a trailer of Zelda or Mario instead of just talking about it. This performance also could have been a success had they actually have gotten people who could play it properly instead of people with suits who probably never play games. If they had gotten someone who could actually play the xylophone instead of that retarded woman, it probably would've sounded and appealed to the audience watching it alot better.

Ok so what was that just now? A few silly promotion/commercial guys moving aroudn the stage pretendign to play soemthing and magically on the screen BEHIND THEM everthing moves like it´s supposed to move.
You know when I was sitting at an arcade machine and had no coins left I pretended to play the demo jsut for the fun of it too.

The game companies are gonna go where the money is.
I think at this point so many people have turned away from Nintendo that all they can really do is make the crappy casual games and hope that people will buy theme since right now the casual gamers are their big audience.
And the hardcore gamers aren't doing what is needed in supporting the few hardcore games that they do sell.
So we end up with the numbers showing the illusion that the casual market is the way to go and end up with this crap tat not only looks ridiculous but butchers a classic tune to the point of bringing tears of rage to your eyes.

you can't seriously believe the sickeningly happy faces, laughing, and jumping around weren't scripted and rehearsed can you? These people were told to pretend they were having fun when we all know god damn well they had to be the most embarassed people alive up on that stage to play this crap.
I love nintendo and all but god help me if this isn't the worst failure since Virtual Boy...and i don't mean just the clip...i mean their entire conference.

I don't agree that this is the worst moment in Nintendo History. I'll find it really funny if this thing sells like gangbusters, even if it isn't up to par, because their core market of casual family centered gamers prefers it over the overly complex and expensive Guitar Hero/Rockband IPs.
I know I'm at the wrong website to say this, but gamers have got to start living with the fact that they are a niche group, and the new PS3/360 wiimotes and more casual centered games comeing of for the PS3/360 show that the real market force isn't with us anymore. The target market is our little sisters and grandmothers.
The paradigm has shifted, the Wii was the first major shift to the "everyperson", but this is moment that everyone will remember for being the day that the "old school" gamer got left behind.
I think this is the first comment I have seen that actually had any brains as opposed to blind "Hey, let's agree with Craig!" comments. Yes, that moment was extremely cheesy, but I'm thinking that a good portion of the people on this site felt extremely let down by the conference simply because there was no "wow" news that Nintendo announced as many people had hoped for. I think we will need to wait for the show in Tokyo for any news about big games, but that does not mean that Nintendo has forgotten about the core game altogether. They are simply spreading their focus out to a broader audience. Core gamers are not used to having only a part of the industry's attention as opposed to all of it.
That being said, Miyamoto really sucks at cowbell.

Wii Sports was a fun little pack in, Wii Play was a fun little thing to get with a new controller, Wii Fit was simply a way to get a new type of controller that will no doubt have better game functionality later on, and now this....It's just gotta' stop, seriously guys, start making some REAL games! I love Nintendo, but really, you're denying the people who helped make you what what you are, the hardcore gamers.
