GRLC- Moonwalker

Whoa... the second Moonwalker reference in a week from a ScrewAttack personality? As luck would have it, Guru Larry is here to give you his take on MJ's Mega Drive "classic" right on the heels of The Nerd's latest video.

First?

First?

Ur Beautiful

I Love U?

First to Fail

oh you didn't!

Im calling it now

This week's CotW will somehow involve the entire SA and SAE crew doing Thriller.

Also, I'm thinking there was a server restart or something? Entire site is acting strange.

Opposites?

I find it kind of weird that Guru Larry didn't find the game that bad, while AVGN said it was a terrible game. It just goes to show you that games that are reviewed by people who try to make games look bad aren't always bad.

said ducks can't play games?

I actually don't think AVGN found the game that terrible.

I don't think AVGN did his video on it because it was a horrible game. I think he did a video on Moon Walker because was a damn fun game to do a video on. Notice how he didn't swear as much as usual that episode? He was damn practically giggling to himself as he was complaining sometimes.

I'm thinking....

I'm thinking that AVGN didn't think it was terrible either. He seemed more disturbed about what you could do with MJ and the fact that you were rescuing little kids from closets. I loved both reviews though. Thanks especially for showing the arcade version that looks great.

James has a 10 Minute Minimum Requitement for shows on GT.

James stretched out his feature by clutching as straws, picking at insignificant things more so he could stretched the review to a full 10 minute episode.

Bizarre he never showed footage of the final level like we did, either. (or did any Joe Pesci jokes ^_^)

He also did that with his Mega Drive/Genesis GhostBusters review, which bugged me as that's an awesome game!

He should have padded it out with the Master System version, The Arcade version and the Amiga/Commodore/Amstrad version. Which ironically we took OUT as we used too much time ^_^

The AVGN is just a character

The AVGN is just a character of Rolfe's and used Moonwalker for comedic purposes.

Sure, there are flaws and replay value is limited, but it's a solid, entertaining game. It's one of my favorites.

I agree

the game itself it's not bad. It's just that the concept is so stupid that someone has to make fun of it. the concept for that game is almost as bad as the one in Shaq-Fu and that's saying a lot.

I honestly liked the game

I honestly really like the game, if you put in the context that it's a 2nd gen Mega Drive/Genesis title, Pre-Sonic The Hedgehog, it's is quite good.

He's right on checking doors, it'd have been nice to have an HUD or a map, even on the pause, but part of playing a game in those days is working out a system/route for you to follow each time, that's the quickest and easiest.

The losing energy for special moves was annoying and could have been used for a separate bar, but I guess it's more of a punishment for the over confident/show offs. A luxury for the exceptionally good at the game.

Also...

Put it into the context that it's actually a movie license. and it's a exceptional game ^_^

MJ's music in sonic 3

for those of you who are curious there's a thing on youtube about it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbVM-l2Oku4

Docu...

Yeah, that's how we uncovered it a few years ago, it's one of the very first gaming videos on Youtube and also one of the best.

Highly recommend everyone watched that video.

Good review.

I enjoyed that review. The arcade version looks much better than the Genesis version.

BTW, nice 'hee hee!' at the end. ;)

"Friends don't let friends buy Bose."

Hmmm...

Seems like Guru Larry managed to get the Moonwalker version with "Thriller" music on it.

Nice vid there. It's nice to see what ol' Jacko was up to before his amazing fall from grace.

Maybe?

Maybe it's the only version that was available in Europe?

We used....

We used the original Japanese copy I bought as a kid for the feature (spent a week trying to dig it out of the shed ^_^).

James used a US copy, so there's possibly a licensing issue when it came to America?

That or something like what happened with Revenge of Shinobi, where the original cart had Batman and Godzilla in it as bosses, but was taken out in later revisions.

Great Vid

*does a crotch grab for larry* Good work mate

Wow, that game actually

Wow, that game actually looks pretty...decent!

All these segments on Moonwalker have made me start listening to some of Mikey's old songs again - they're still freaking amazing. :D

Guru Larry always makes me

Guru Larry always makes me chuckle. Perhaps he is a genius.

:D

Thanks dude, I can assure you it's just a visage ^_^

Triller

Guru larry has a copy of Moonwalker with triller, I've never noticed that before, glad that other G1's like this along with the AVGN 1.

Arcade Version

The arcade version was definitely more fun.

My road, my journey

Lol,

I loved the arcade version, but I have a terrible memory of playing it with loads of money inserted, and some fucking kid came along and started pressing all the buttons starting the other players, I was so pissed I rammed his head against the machine.

Only to learn later that he was the son of the arcade owner.

So that pissed me off, fucking hate kids pressing buttons whilst your playing, happened to me on TMNT once too. Little cunts.

Wez

Oh, that's Wez playing as the other player in the arcade version ^_^

I don't blame ya Larry

I hate kids as well. Whenever I'm at the mall, I see kids goof around the arcade machines all the time, pressing buttons, messing around with gear shifts on the arcade racers. I seen an infant playing around on a Crazy Taxi arcade machine. I hate that today kids can't even play games properly, they always mess around instead of playing them right.

Docu

Title...

Anyone else notice that the title says GRLC intsead of GLRC...? Last time I checked it wasn't Guru Rarry's Letro Corner... =D

Huh? What was that noise?

What A Coincidence!

Alright, two reviews of Moonwalker on the same month. That's cool. Makes me wanna give the game a try even though I did play the arcade version many years ago. Way to go Guru Larry!

Oh, so YOUR copy has thriller

Likte the Nerd said, why do only some copies have it and some don't?

!

Early versions did, we used a launch Japanese copy.

Sega often revised games, like Revenge of Shinobi, Fantasia and Sonic 1.

Obviously they thought they had the rights to Thriller when they didn't.

But that music does play randomly.

Double Post.

Well Guru Larry are you gonna be at SGC?

I doubt it sadly. :(

I doubt it sadly. :(

Honestly, I prefer this

Honestly, I prefer this review to the one the Nerd did.

:D

Thanks bud ^_^

Sonic Soundbite

At the Begining, the end Act highscore Soundbite (or whatever it's called) from Sonic the Hedgehog is used in this game before the music starts, 1 year before Sonic was released.

Nice vid once again Guru

Nice vid once again Guru Larry, man am I finding out a bit about Jackson this week...

-- God Bless.

My Favourite Game

Yep, this is my favourite game of all time. Don't care what anyone says, I grew up playing this on my Mega Drive, and to this day I still love to give it a go and 'beat it' (ha, the pun) in half an hour.

I've even splashed out a hefty sum of money and bought an original arcade cabinet of the game, which looks and plays bloody awesome! I prefer the console version as its the one I grew up with, but the arcade is fab too, albeit too damn short!

Great vid Larry, I'm glad someone admitted that the game is actually good! AVGN didn't want to admit it, I love the way in his vid that he tries to pick really bad bits of the game, but those bits don't make the game bad at all. Sure, when you moonwalk it doesn't do anything, when you grab your crotch it doesn't do anything, but Jacko obviously wanted those moves in the game somewhere because thats what he does! Also, I'm guessing he wanted Bubbles in the game somewhere, so came up with the idea of him pointing to the boss. Yes, pretty pointless, but again Bubbles was a part of Jacko. Overall, its got all of Jacko's moves, its got his music, its got good gameplay!

...Well, you gotta admit that its better than the crappy movie!

I loved this game so much

I loved this game so much when i was a kid. Played it at a friends house all the time :)

imagine

Imagine if they released a sequel on next gen consoles.

Photobucket

not bad

two reviews on the same game, interesting.

That was a weird coincidence...

I guess everyone had M.J. on the brain this week?

I sometimes wonder myself as to what the hell he's even doing to make money now. Tours around Europe? Everyone seems to love him there...evidently. :P

Naaah, M.J. may look like an alien ghoul but he's still a great entertainer. This game along with the arcade version are actually really awesome, despite the theme and ridiculousness.

If any one of you actually saw the movie Moonwalker you'd probably wish it was more like the game, I know I do. It was more of an incoherent collection of scenes and music videos rather than an actual film. It really didn't follow any sort of standardized formula.

I'm actually surprised AVGN didn't throw in some Joe Pesci jokes either...I was waiting for one. P.S. his characters name is Mr. Big...yeah. Just fulfilling the cliche to the ultimate level I suppose.

In the Arcade version you fight giant cock trusting robots. I'm not sure how they let that one slip by them...in retrospect it's quite ironic and hilarious.

Any how, awesome review. *Two thumbs up*

Awesome Arcade Game

The arcade version was one of my favorites as a kid. It's insanely hard to come by these days, sadly.

It's a shame you didn't show a whole lot of it in your video. May I request a part II?

Mecha-Jackson says: "IMA

Mecha-Jackson says: "IMA FIRIN MA LASER! Oh!!!"
Hilarious, as always Larry. Now I will go see the AVGN version. Yay.

Michael was in the first one too.

Space Channel 5 that is.

But...

That was only a lookalike/unlicensed, Sega put him in, but didn't officially name him in fear of a lawsuit.

He isn't credited in the original.

I'm on the fence about Moonwalker...

I absolutely love the arcade game but I am not a fan of the Genesis/MegaDrive version

As for the AVGN's review... I prefer to compare it to the Battletoads episode... He's not reviewing a terrible game... just an odd game with some frustrating design choices...

....more games do need a screen-clearing dance attack...
