Hyperfire for PC

In ScrewAttack's first few years we've never really had what you would call a "normal update" on July 4th. This year is no exception as we introduce what we can only assume will be the first of many addicting games put together by the entirely g1 run game making company Gamma Prime, Hyperfire. Right now Hyperfire is only available for PCs (which sucks cause we can't play it at the office) but we have been assured that it will definitely be made for Macs as well.

In the words of g1 Marc Marta, "Gamma Prime wants to start out small. This early 80's styled arcade shooter is really simple, but very addictive. This is an example of the minimal capabilities of not even what Gamma Prime can do, but what one member of Gamma Prime can do. Have fun, and happy Independence Day!" Click the image to download the game and get addicted... 80's style.

This is a small indication

This is a small indication of what Gamma Prime can produce
give it time, and we'll see some really wicked stuff come out from these guys.

Saw this at IMOG I think and i liked it :)

gamma Prime

Is destined For greatness! how many website communities have their own game software development teams, not to mention their own guild of animators!

simple but addicting! great game!

Screw Attack for life (and windows XP!!)!!

Awesome fucking page.

Surprisingly FUN!!!

Damn that's awesome! I got up to level 10 with 81700 points now... so fun.

it's great

I can barely get to level 7 :(

Interested in magic: www.mtguniverse.net

Yeah it was tough.

I actually had a tough time getting after level 6. But I just kept playing and playing til' I gave up. Then level 10!!

Although after I kept playing some more, I kept kerploding at level 6 or 7 . :(
So now it's just practice, practice, practice.

Aww not for macs :*(

Aww not for macs :*(

Yeah I know

WTF guys? I guess we just have to wait.

Nice work guys

Been waiting to play some of these guys work for a long time!

Looks Just It Came out in 80s

If I didn't know better, I would think it was a real game from the 80s. I hope the next game is a 2D Platformer.

that word be cool

yes a 2d game word be cool o by the way grat game

we all rock (ok just me o and scrubs)

A 2D platformer would be

A 2D platformer would be awesome, I love this game it's so bad.

Nice!

Really fun game. I just have one problem and one complaint.

1. The read me says you can use a PC controller, but I didn't see a way to configure it. How do you?
2. There should be an option to configure the sound so we can play it while listening to sidescrollers or something.

Really, minor stuff. It's a fun game.

Classic!

One word. Classic!

LiaG is what I'm waiting for.

Wonder what THAT'S gonna be like.

Keep it up!!

Keep up the good work. All you need to do is be consistent with this and you'll make it.

PD: How ironic, not being able to play a PC game at the office. Unless... you have been blocked to do so, or use NT based windows... never mind actually.

Suck my balls, EA!

dam

:( aww i cant play it, i have pc but im a total newb at most comp stuff. somethin about winzip?? o well, help would be apriciated

Help 4 U

If you dont have "WINZIP" then go to google and type "winzip" in and download from the first page, install winzip. Then you click on the file you downloaded (Hyperfireinstall) and choose where you wanna place the game on you're computer by clicking "browse", when you have decided where you wanna put it then just click on "Unzip" and the game folder will be where you chose it to be when you clicked "browse" =)

Screwattack rpg?

Would be cool

Why am I smoking a cigar? Because I refuse to breathe the world's air!

Yes it would. Maxifant

Yes it would.

Maxifant Corey has joined your party...
Daily Destin has gained EXP...

haha.

simple design, great fun

this game's pretty sweet, it took me a while to find the key that'll fire at the ufo's but once i found it, the fun really started :-p.

its a simple game, feels fast pace, will screwattack host a g1 point leadership board? doesn't sound likely but that would be pretty cool.

Retro Classy

This is just classic, I love it. If Gamma Prime can make this as a small side project I can't wait to see their full capability.

Good job Marc and anyone else who contributed =)

It's good to hear Mac users will be able to play it in due time. Rad! *That word was so 20 years ago....wait...I wasn't even alive*

I love 80's shooters,and the

I love 80's shooters, and the challenge is pretty cool too.I await to see more from gamma prime, because the games are awesome.Great work G1s

Not bad you guys. Feels like

Not bad you guys. Feels like something you might have found in the late 70s.

Superb!

Got to level seven on my third try! =D Its a really fun little game, super addicting ;)

After all the time

After all the time that Gamma prime has been open, I'd expect a bit better, but the game is addicting and fun, I only wish it had power-ups, different enemies and bullets that are actually avoidable.

The effects are flawed aswell, but I'll come over as a bad person, don't get mne wrong, the game was addicting.

-The Jerk.

I guess you are a hyper jerk, huh :P

to be honest I had the same problems with the game that the jerk had but for being made by one person from a group that's still searching for more people this is quite good and a definete harbinger of things to come.

They do have day jobs you know

ok then, you do better!!!

*sigh*

I'd say I could because I can, but this game was made to be in the 80's arcade style. I am not one to judge the user's capabilities based on one game.

And having a job has nothing to do with it.

-The Jerk.

The "I'd like to see you do

The "I'd like to see you do better" excuse is poor. People don't mock Ebert's reviews because he isn't a movie director. You don't shrug off IGN because none of them are developers. It's the same idea.

As a game player he has the right to offer criticism. He did so in a fairly constructive way too.

Don't Worry!

The reason this was released first was so that you could see something small and cool. You will be seeing something that an entire team of people worked on VERY soon. Anyone who attended Iron Man of Gaming this year will tell you (maybe more reason to attend next year? Hmmm...)

A little bit of back story behind Hyperfire: I started making a little something while I was waiting for sprites for another game. Before I knew it, this is what I got. But I'm glad you guys are at least having fun with it, if not more. =)

True

It's true, I got to hang with Marc and he is serious about making great games. He unveiled another game at the Iron-Man and it was really cool too! This game is nice, but it's just a taste of what's to come.

Keep up the great work Gamma Prime!

Good Job!!!!

First of all this is a great first game just made by a game community development team cant wait to see what is to come

(it would of been pretty cool to have some bosses)

but im not complaining this is pure greatness

Awsome game

This one awesome game. It is really addicting and that is a good sign that good things are to come from Gamma Prime.

Yeah this needs to be

Yeah this needs to be "mac"ed. Luckily im on my pc at the time. Oh yeah

Nice work

Fun little game, looking forward to what Gamma Prime make in the future

vs other classic arcade titles?

I was expecting a little more, but I guess I didn't know of time and manpower constraints. I think there could have at least been a little music or other enemies or some power ups. Not bad for a first game I suppose.

Great Job

Great job guys! This is a pretty fun classic game. I'll give you (Marc) a call later this week about the other project.

nice

its good, can't wait for more

It's surprising fun. I can't

It's surprising fun. I can't wait to see what's next!
Photobucket

Great Easter eggs

Did you guys get to level 18 and saw the monkey-ships? Its such a great Donkey Kong reference

Awww DAMN IT!!

I can only go up to level 10, then after that I'm boned.

Awesome!

This game is pure awesomeness. Simple but addictive - AWESOME!

wonder how many g1 points a

wonder how many g1 points a game is worth and who gets them

wow

i'm surprised it worked so well and easy!

made a mod

this game sucks

its old and boring

Dude wtf...

WTF's wrong with you...

These guys worked hard on it and you just say it sucks?

His opinion. Just because

His opinion. Just because someone worked hard on something doesn't mean its great. I personally like it myself, but he's allowed to share his opinion (even if he could have said it more like I didn't like it or whatever)

Customizable Controls

Very fun, and addicting game, the only problem was that I was not able to change the controls to fit my preference . For future reference, next time u release another totally awesome game, put in a change control setting similar to what emulators have. I kinda don't like using the arrow keys to move, rather use the "W" "A" "S" "D" keys to move. (grew up on first person shooters you see) Still a good game though.

Awesome...

I would download it but my computer sucks so much balls...it would be a disgrace to try; but in the near future when I get a better rig, I will surely play it...

In the mean time...Congrats Gamma Prime, even though you think these are baby steps, it still kicks major ass that you are making headway for the games to come.

500 KB

Dude the game's only like 500 KB in size.

Little Criticisms

Not bad, little criticisms:

-Some of those bullets are impossible to dodge.
-Allow up and down movement in addition to left and right.
-Make the playing field larger, e.g., more space to move around.
-Add more enemy types.
-Add different types of weapons, more power-ups.

That said, otherwise, it's good! I'm terrible at programming, so I know how can difficult it can be to make these things.

You see, this is why I would

You see, this is why I would make a very bad critic. If I can't do better, I see no room to complain. Honestly, the only game I can program at my level is a "Catch the Clown" game on Gamemaker.

I had a lot of fun with this game, and it was free, so I would feel like a ingrate if I complained about it. Now, start talking 50-60 dollars then I have room to complain.

Hurray! First Release!

Awesome game but where are the cheat codes?!?! :)

C´mon

Why cheating??

It too easy,
the difficulty grows after each level
so, If you wanna play at the "easy way", better not to try. Because, Whats the point??

:)

I agree with ya.

I've been testing the game since it was a spermatozoa; the "cheat codes" bit is an inside joke with Marc.

not impressed

there really should have been powerups. besides that, there's no real problem its just that, it's so repititve

Gamma Prime Inside Info

On the insider tip, I'm part of GP (programmer/designer/project manager), so I'll give some hints of what's to come from the group.

We're currently developing 4 new titles. Without getting myself into too much trouble, we're exploring different genres (First Person Shooter, Scrolling Beat 'em Up, and more modern shooters) -- in an attempt to satisfy the masses. A demo of one of the games should be out very soon!

Our website is in the works as well; stay tuned: www.gammaprimegames.com

Cheers!

just a tip

use the quake3 engine if making an fps. it's easy to work with and the source is free. in any other game you should use the source engine cuse you can make any game with it, you get a kickass physicsengine and it can be ported to consoles.

Just a little observation.

Just a little observation. When the credits screen appears...the word graphics is misspelled.

You're right! Oh man...

All fixed now! Anyone can re-download. Hahaha. Thanks for pointing that out!

prrety good game , get dizzy tho

its a pretty fun game but i get dizzy watching those lines go quicker and quicker by.

Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.

Does anybody think..

there should be a screwattack leaderboard for Hyperfire? That would be awesome.

Not Supported

That would be really cool, however, the game doesn't automatically upload the .DAT file to a remote server or anything. As a result, we would have to ask players to submit screenshots with their scores, but I have a feeling that some of them might get photoshopped.

Might be a cool idea for Hyperfire v2 -- we'll see! :)

You wouldn't even have to

You wouldn't even have to photoshop it. All you would have to do is open "hi.dat" in notepad or a text editing program and just make the high score whatever you want it to be and then save the file.

Yes, I've been messing around with some of the files.:)

Cool!

Its a cool game and everything works fine, but there is one problem. I dont know about you guys, but I think the bullets/lasers (whatever that the U.F.Os shoot at you) sometimes are impossible to dodge ...
Well,thats my opinion :S

Stupid green mushrooms...

They totally pwned my ass... this game is really adictive, I love old school! nice one SA!
Stuff like this really makes one proud to be a G1... man, ScrewAttack fkn rulz!

This is one great little game.

Simply, addicting and, above all else, FUN! Great job, Gamma Prime! A rousing, awesome, old school start to your projects. Keep it up!

I'm gonna' go see if I can't beat my high score... Damn moving UFOs. Razzin' frazzin'...

Awesome!

This game is stupidly addictive!
