Pretty much now with games, developers decide to make a game into a trilogy such as Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, and some others. But a 6 game series for BioShock, thats crazy.

I love that magazine, and I'm really sad to see it go. It was the definitive staple of independent gaming magazines, and now it's gone. And that makes me sad. :(
It's funny how Jar Jar was the only reason I liked star wars Ep. 1 as a kid, and now I hate his existence.
And I'm not even a big fan of star wars. I can't immagine Destin's pain while watching that movie.

I wonder if they'll update us about Beyond Good and Evil 2. The first game went the way of Sands of Time in that it was great but under sold. Make it Ubisoft!
Looks like I didn't have to submit the story to Destin in the first place. That was the most shocking gaming story I've heard in years, I mean... I love EGM and now Ziff Davis Media has gone and fucked up! But in reality, the net has been pretty much been taking over the printing buissiness for quite a while now, and that's how it is. It just sucks that EGM had to go right before their 25th anniversary.
Well I'm just thankful that ScrewAttack is still here for me to move on.
I still have fond memories of going into malls as a young lad, and being excited to read the newest issue of EGM. What new wonders would be out in the months ahead?! With the advent of the interwebz however, it's a really hard business model to keep. Here's to those left behind like Destin said, thanks for the ride and we wish you the best!

Hey, Mario, Zelda, and Final Fantasy did things pretty well for more than six games... but then again, each edition didn't have too much to do with one another... tread lightly, Team Bioshock...
Jar Jar Binks... there are very few things that anger me on this mortal plane quite like Jar Jar... Sonic and Mega Man's general downward spirals, the overabundance of FPS games and GTA rip-offs... and the N-Gage. That system flat-out made me angry. Not in a fun fanboy rivalry angry... just angry... kind of like what Jar Jar does... Someone force choke that beached carp... please?

I've been getting that magazine for the last 7 years ever since GameInformer started sucking, and this is not long after my other magazine i got Games for Windows(formerly Computer gaming world)went in the crapper. sigh*
EGM was my favorite gaming magazine, but I was more heart broken by the loss of so many people from 1up that I grew to consider friends. I trusted their reviews the most over anyone else and I'll miss their voice on my Zune. :(

Let me make a few qualifying statements before I begin: I am by no means a "fan" of Star Wars. I like Star Wars, just not in the way most do. As a kid I thought the original movies were some of the greatest things my young eyes had seen but now, not so much. Don't get me wrong, I still love watching The Empire Strikes Back (my personal favorite) and I even like the muppets... sorry, Ewoks from Return of the Jedi. While there were many who claimed that the Ewoks had obliterated the believably serious undertone of Star Wars, I don't think that's the case as Darth Vader's death scene is more memorable to me than the famous "I am your father" moment. But it didn't take a bunch of teddy bears to destroy Star Wars, no for that job George Lucas assigned the most unfathomably ridiculous and juvenile character to grace our precious galaxy from far far away since Salacious B. Crumb.
Jar Jar Binks was the initial melanoma that eventually covered the rest of the Star Wars saga with skin cancer. He was put there solely to pander to the little kids who were just starting to get into Star Wars and stole much of the screen time from Darth Maul, someone who was much more hyped and infinitely more badass than anyone else in that shitty, shitty excuse for a new chapter in the Star Wars mythos. The only reason anyone remembers Jar Jar is because he is the single most annoying creature to ever inhabit the same universe as you, me or anyone else. He sounds like the illegitimate love-child of Elmo and Elmer Fudd, and I honestly can't recall a single thing he ever did to help Obi Wan and Qui Gon, apart from getting them into Otoh Gunga. And to answer your question, Jar Jar's name is still remembered because he will ALWAYS be remembered as the albatross around George "didn't have the balls to kill him off directly in episode 3 and resorted to saying he died in the destruction of Alderaan" Lucas's neck and the inevitable demise of a once mighty franchise that has since abandoned casual admirers of it's movies such as myself.
And yes, when I refer to the "rest of the saga" I am including the original trilogy as well. I can no longer watch those movies in their original condition unless I work my ass off to find a VHS copy that hasn't been touched by George Lucas's grubby little hands. He has ruined Star Wars for me, and now he ruined Indiana Jones. At least the original Indy is still untouched...

There is a box in DVD with the original cinema version of Star Wars, where Anakin's ghost is still David Prowse, and not Hayden.
Plus, Jar Jar didn't die, I guess. Alderaan was Leia's home planet, not Jar Jar's neither Padmé's. Their home planet was Naboo, and in the (fucked up) edited version of Episode VI, you can see Naboo's gungans celebrating the end of the empire. Which is awkward, cause it was Jar Jar himself who pointed the Chanceler to have the Senate's power while Padmé was missing in that desert planet rescuing Obi-Wan.
Yeah, he helped build the fucking empire. That's how useless he is. And to think in the possibility that he isn't dead? Fuck.
But, DESPITE FUCKING JAR JAR BINKS, I loved the new trilogy.
Episode I was great, Darth Maul's fight was quite awesome, the only thing that doesn't quite make up is that creature-who-shall-not-be-named-again and that midichlorian bullshit. So the Force is actually some bacterias? And you can measure with a ki meter? ANAKIN'S FORCE IS OVER NINE THOUSAND???
Episode II was better, even though some people think it's worse. Well, everything in this movie kicks ass, the Coruscant chase, the Jedi/Clone war and the Dooku battle. And the love scenes... were ok. I mean, yeah, a lot of bullshit could've been but, like that time Anakin falls from that "warg" and start laughing. Well, fuck. Who cares? Han+Leia is way better.
And finally, Episode III. You can't deny that the battle Anakin vs Obi-Wan was the most epic thing you have ever seen in your life. Ok, maybe I'm overreacting, but it's purely epic and romantic (in the literature meaning). It certainly is the second best episode, second only to Episode V. Ep3 closed the circle and left no open plot. Except for Jar Jar, who DOESN'T APPEAR AT ANY MOMENT IN THE MOVIE, but no one cares about him. And the Binary Sunset ending... fuck, that made me CRY. Seriously, I cried at the end of Episode III.
And then... they release a 1h30 Star Wars bag of crap called "The Clone Wars". Why did you HAD to destroy my memories, George...

It's a sad day, EGM was a part of the gaming history, thanks to them we have akuma and gouken on SF4, all those cheat codes in a time where information was scarce, thanks to them I was able to know the real videogame business in a time with no multiplataform publications in Mexico, I learned English just to be able to read it, Sushi-x, fighting games will never be the same without him...
Ubisoft, what the hell? wasn't enough the CSI and Lost games? next you will be doing a hell's kitchen gam... NO!! it can't be...

Sadly the fall of EGM and 1UP.com was actually pretty long in coming, this is more the product of a lot of poor business decisions in the past, and the last half year or so of both has really more been death throws then it has been continued business.
Heart goes out to the staff, former and still existing of both entities. Thank you EGM for filling my childhood with excellent articles, neat mailbags, and Shoe's silliness.

Episode 1 was more than capable of sucking without Jar Jar Binks, I'd say a bigger problem was those boring politics scenes and awful character development/acting/dialogue
My heart goes out to EGM, lots of long running magazines are closing lately... I guess in the current recession and free access to news online, magazine sales were sure to plummet
A long running English Nintendo magazine (Super Play, N64, NGC) had to shut down recently simply because the Wii has shifted so far from real games that they just don't have much to write about anymore...
In fact they have been staying constant at around the 500k to 600k markings as far as sales... Their problems stemmed from not enough ads being put into their publications thus not turning enough profit for UGO's liking. They wanted a website and not a magazine. These words from the Milkman himself... GOD DAMMIT this pisses me off that EGM is closing, I've had an on and off subscription to them for 11 years now and before that I would just buy it off store shelves at my local circle K store.... and the fucking 1 UP Show (My personal favorite reason to even visit 1up) is gone too, this is BULLSHIT... UGO Can go EAT A DICK!!! My heart goes out to all who lost their jobs and to those that made it through the disaster to see the empty office aftermath...
