Download speed in Europe is much better though. I cannot refer to the us but here in Germany it doesnt take to long at all. Guess u americans need to get of ur Cable modems and get DLS high speed ^^
Update downloads are not "backround-able" yet, just games, demos and movies you buy on PSN store.
Backround downloads, however, do keep downloading unless you're playing online, say killzone 2 skirmish, the download stops so that you don't lag like crazy, but gets resumed the moment you jump out of the online and get to story mode and so.
I wouldn't say that the rep system would be an upgraded trophy system. with trophies you work towards them yourself and are completely self indulgent. You get them if you want them. Rep on the other hand is what you would get if other people like what you do or what you have done.

I like seeing you ease up on the Sony hate... but a lot of Sony hate is still coming out. I just wish I could understand why people love the 360 so much. Between games like Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, Eternal Sonata, and so many other games being ported over with superior content than the 360 version and the fact that I have a high end PC and hate Gears and Halo... what am I really missing out on by not having a 360?

Yeah you see. Its not always about which console is "better". Its about which library of games is best suited to each gamer. Personally I like Shooters, RPGs, and a really good online service. And there not necessarily being ported over with superior content. Remember Lost Planet. The PS3 got a whole new character to play as but the visuals sucked and the controls were weird. Besides the 360 is also having good games being ported over, with the announcement of FFXIII and others.

To me PS3 and PC pretty much cover all bases. Ghostbusters seems to be best on PC, where as Eternal Sonata was a superior game than the 360 version. Some people liked the Bioshock graphics and stability more, but the exclusive DLC content was given "DLC of the year" awards. I got my Bioshock for 20 dollars on PS3 bargain hunting less than 6 months after release, and my DLC for 10 dollars so I wasn't screwed over the price.
Some games like GTA IV are just slightly better, and some games like Lost Planet and the Orange box are worse.
I have been asking for a long time what exclusives I should buy a 360 for, but they just give me an FPS I don't care about, then call me a PS3 fanboy for not liking their favorite 360 only FPS and then mention a game that is going to get ported later on. One person told me "Tales of Vesperia will never come to the PS3" well... ya... wrong... I liked Ninja Gaiden Sigma way more than Ninja Gaiden Black. Why? Cause the controller I was playing Black on had these 2 little buttons that would do crap that I always ended up hitting by accident and couldn't beat first boss because of those 2 buttons. They were the white and black buttons. I hated them. Had no problem going through the same area on a PS3 controller.

Yeah, I tried home once. I had the beta, and it's still on my HD. I really hope it doesn't force me to use that as my in game lobby. They should just do a party mode and the cross game voice chat. Why don't they do that? What's the frickin' hold up? Everybody wants it. I was trying to play Ultimate Alliance with a friend of mine online with no voice chat.. you know how fucking irritating that is? We both went out and specifically bought it just to play together... but no voice chat. We didn't even bother playing through the whole thing because it was such a pain in the ass. ASS!

in the beta... Home was WAY different than it is now. WAY different. Home is (in some ways) better than the NXE party system for a group of friends. Mostly because you can have more than 8 people which is great for if you have 16 people for your killzone clan. You can also have clubs which is another great way to organize clans and meet ups.
Plus why don't they have party mode and cross game voice chat? Probably for the same reason that Sony doesn't have custom soundtracks in every game and Linux doesn't have enough Video Game support. Microsoft loves to patent everything and it's hard sometimes to find a work around if they release a good idea first.
Most games have in game voice chat. There are some japanese games coming to America that don't support it like White Knight Chronicles. They are actually spending time to put that feature in before it hits release in America.
So only a few companies that make a few crappy games screw you over with the no voice chat. Most of the games that don't suck have voice chat.
I personally like the Disgaea pictures I have all around my free chamber apartment. You kinda have to be creative and rational to enjoy Home which explains why so many people hate it.
According to Sony statistics though 1/3 of PS3 users already use Home and many stay on for an hour at a time. As soon as more games have game launching though I'll be using Home more. I hope they allow our apartments to stay up even when the PS3 is shut down though. That's a very necessary feature.

I remember when the PS3 first came out and they didn't have rumble in the controller. They never made a clear public reason, though circles said it was due to lisencing rights since Microsoft allegedly bought out the company that made the rumble motors for both companies. That makes me wonder if maybe some of the features that Xbox Live has like the chat and such are patented or otherwise owned to a degree where Sony is either having to play the waiting game, or trying to find a way around it.
Also, while I can understand that 399 may seem high, I remember paying the 499 tag for my BC 80gig. The functions that came along (even without the BC) to me made the system worth it. I also like how the system allows for many of it's parts and upgrades to be third party, unlike Microsoft (wireless for 100? Makes a pro as much as a ps3, and 3 still has options it doesn't match).
Don't get me wrong, I have a 360 and love it, but I also pait full on for the 20 gig at launch and thought it was worth it. Also, who remembers the original price of the ps2 and how long it was up there? (I actually forget the first drop,).
