Its stuff they put on games, CD's, DVD's, and downloadable files to keep you from pirating. Sadly all it really does is piss off people who buy the products legally by treating them like criminals, places unnecessary restrictions on the content, and give pirates an excuse to pirate.
If DRM did curb piracy and did not punish people who legally buy the products with it people wouldn't mind it so much.
Banjo Kazooie is one of rares biggest properties. Fans have been waiting since 2000 for the 3rd enstament, and there were two GBA games made so the series hasnt been off the chart for ten years unlike KI, Im sorry I know screw Attack loves the game, but not to may other people do. BnK is bigger then KI, should they make a KI sure I guess but dont blame BnK for it.

Yes, many other sites do what Kotaku does with the news regurgitation but they also provide original content in the form of videos, podcasts, and articles on trends in the industry or nostalgia pieces.
If Kotaku was like IGN, 1up, or even ScrewAttack they wouldn't have to rely so heavily on rumors from NeoGAF and CAG to generate site hits.

Blogger sites get paid for the more editorials they release and of course try to get the news first. But they should of checked out the source first, trusting a forum post can be highly risky.
Also I don't like Brain's responce to the issue, it was obvious he felt embarrassed and hurt by the fact it was a contest, but he shouldn't of blamed CAG entirely.

And on another point at least the world won't end before you get to play, at least accordin to a botonist that nows more a physic than physicist, srsly the guy behind that LHC destroying the earth crazyness is a botanist.
Oh man, I am so glad Mega Man 9 came out today... Its pure awesome, is what it is. Playing it right now. Its hard, but I've already beaten four of the eight robot masters. But I had to put it on hold so I could get my Hard News fix. :D

CAG in their podcast called out game blogging websites on their reliability of rumours. So Wombat, a member of the CAG team said about a contest where if a member can get a news story out on the 3 main websites (Kotaku, Destructoid etc) So a random member posted a story about Xbox Pure, a relaunch for the 360. And Brian Crecente posted about the news, so of course all other sites followed suit.
But that wasn't the problem, when Brian found out, he blamed CAG saying he can no longer trust the sites credibility. Despite the fact he should of done a little more research on the matter.
I do have to side with CAG on this issue about reporting rumors. Crecente just made his blog seem less credible. Instead of branding the report with a big RUMOR in the title and sending Microsoft a message asking about it, he instead just posts it right out there. Can they post rumors? Yeah, I enjoy reading industry rumors and blogs such as Kotaku can go on reporting them. I'd just expect them to look into it.
Now what about the whole debacle with this intentionally being caused to throw the blogs off. I say good for CAG. They set out to prove a point and they proved it. Kotaku and Crecente should have just said okay we've been had let's just move on. There are other responses, and I'll rank them by what I'd prefer:
1)Admit defeat and move on
2)Delete the article and don't mention what happened (This would cause problems, but they could stretch the banhammer)
3)What they did, call out the site posting the rumor and claim no responsibility
I also read, so I can't be 100% sure, that Crecente mad the comment that he shouldn't have to go and look through to see what was going inside CAG. And to be fair, he didn't but he should have. Heck, he could have asked readers of Kotaku if they knew what was going on behind CAG, this would have been finished earlier.
I do remember watching the GameTrailers video about blogs and how one person said that most of the people writing weren't schooled (as in college graduate) journalists. Well if they want to be treated professionally they at least try to get some classes in.
Of course I'm just a nerd procrastinating on his computer, so what do I know?
When is RARE going to understand or pretty much realize that people want KI3 really bad. The day I see a release date for KI3, I am gonna shit my pants. KI for me has being one the best fighting game and I can say that because I still have tattooed the freaking Ultras and combos from every character RARE stop being a bounce of douche bags and make the damn game!

Wow so much was brought up and so much useful information was given. I had to watch it twice just to get all the information. Mega Man 9 is the best game i have played on the wii all year. All the hype is certainly worth it. It gets a 5 out of 5 from me. The whole Kotaku Cheapy D issue raises so many questions about what major gaming networks should listen to and question sources to what they should report on. Plus Banjo Kazooie is waaay over priced for a re packaging of the same old B. Plus finally EA is patching spore! Now i can have multiple shapes of penis colonies running around on my computer. KI franchises seems to be treated like nintendo to the Earthbound/Mother franchise, except mother/earthbound has been rubbed in our face. Nintendo power treats it like an inside joke at which they mock us.

I never gave Kotaku too much credibility and this brings them down to the most base of levels. I'm glad to see folks called out like this. If he can't take the grief, then screwattack him. It seems ge got pie in the face and instead of taking the joke like a good sport, he instead tried to tear down any website connected to the story. Pathetic.
I've got Spore, play it, and like it despite DRM. But EA's "solution" isn't enough. They're just making it slightly less painful, not fixing the issue. Games can be pirated on ANY system, so why target PC users with nearly fascist protection systems?
