I still don't understand how Microsoft continues to charge people to pay to use Xbox Live, even though they have long since dropped the subscription fees for Games for Windows Live. The only reason they are charging people is because they can get away with it. f I were an Xbox user, I'd actually want to see PS3 gain ground in the console war, just because that would probably cause MS to drop Xbox Live's fees to stay more competitive. Microsoft doesn't even use dedicated servers, so I honestly haven't got a clue as to what people think they're paying for with XBL.

True, but let me explain something to you. Charging for non-dedicated online gaming services is beyond being greedy.
It's understandable from Blizzard's point of view why they charge people to play World of Warcraft: it's fully dedicated. It costs them a shitload of money to run the servers we all connect to and play. Hell, even Sony has a warranted excuse to start charging because they're dedicated as well, but they don't. When it comes to Xbox Live, we all connect to each other or private servers, much like Counter-Strike. It's NOT dedicated. What's Microsoft's excuse?
I personally find Xbox Live to be worth the annual $50 but seriously, when you put it together, we're basically throwing $50 at their corporate ego. It costs them very little (if anything at all) to keep the Gears and Halo's turning, know what I mean?
They do have tons of servers for XBL. I work there and just before fall started they replaced all the old XBL servers with new ones. Plus XBL is still the best service out there its like how blizzard can charge an insane amount of money for one game. I just hope that you dont have to pay for new accounts to play SC2 and Diablo.
