For gods sake, I so knew that people would choose the MAIN themes of popular games.
What about the underground theme for Mario Bros.!?
What about the music for the last 5 hours in Majora's Mask!?
What about the Theme for Halo 3!?
What about 'Live and Learn' for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle!?
(Yes, I know the last two were main themes, but at least they fitted the levels they were played in and weren't as predictable as the ones in the video...)

They even said in the very beginning these were classics, not necessarily the best. World 1-1 is more memorable than the underground theme, and Zelda's main is much more memorable than anything in Majora's Mask. Theme from Halo 1 would probably outrank Halo 3's remix of said theme; just because a music track is more up to date in technology does not make it better. The fact that 8 bits of sound can still sound truly great today is enough to say they are some of the best tracks in the industry.
And if it takes one video's list (Which comes with the disclaimer that it will be different than everyone elses) to completely ruin your enjoyment of something, you really need to sort your priorities.
What would you prefer? The Sonic Heroes theme? Crush 40's version of His World... Even though that didn't actually appear in the game BUT I DIGRESS.
I wouldn't have nominated Live & Learn for the Sonic song... I'd personally go for the song that plays in the final boss battle of the Death Egg Zone on Sonic & Knuckles.
I accept that it's hard to choose a Final Fantasy song... I was torn between One Winged Angel, the FFVII boss battle theme, and the piano tune that plays on the menu screen of Crisis Core.
Oh, and none of the MGS songs by Harry Gregson Williams get in? That... Kinda sucks, the MGS series has some of the best music I've heard in any video game.

After having watched this vid for the second time I just can't help but gush over all my personal favourite video game themes, what gamer DOESN'T froth at the mouth with excitment when they hear the Zelda theme, its just that good. Video games are so awsome and their music is awsome.
If I may request that the next top ten be a little sillier, seems the last whacky top ten you guys did was HO HO HOES.
Duke Nukem should not have been there. I Really disagree and I am not being a bitch but it took the place of F-Zero. Because, I realized that there were not any single them from a racing game and that sucks because there has been a lot of good racing game themes. Yeah! I am disappointed. Other than that the list was great and I seriously liked it.

I kind of knew that this list would go in this direction, but aside from Mega Man and Duck Tales, this doesn't match my top choices. This list is a little too steeped in RPG/adventure stuff, which is alright... What it really could have used is a little more tuneage from the world of shooters and run-and-guns. Duke Nukem is alright, but I would have rather seen something from Contra or Life Force. I would have personally included 'Colony' from Axelay, which is not only one of the best game songs I've ever heard, but also pushed the SNES sound card about as far as it could go (before DKC). A single Castlevania song would have been nice also. It's really surprising that Vampire Killer or Bloody Tears didn't show up in lieu of that corny Donkey Kong song. In fact, why the fuck did Konami get completely pwned in this!

Kid Icarus made my list - at like number 6 or 7. But it didn't make the final list. That's the difficult thing about doing a Top 10 - several people are collaborating, and we all have different opinions....which is probably why some of the more popular songs made the list versus some more obscure tunes.
I don't see how you guys can do it. I have lots of tracks that I love, but I'm not sure I could numerically place them (with a few exceptions of course).

My list is somewhat different from yours, but I can agree that all of these tracks have greatness injected in their veins. The Zelda theme will ring through gamers' minds well after the series has died (if it comes to that).
Bringing up the symbolism in the Moon, I'm surprised there wasn't one for Giygas Battle in Earthbound; it starts out 8-bit, moves into 16-bit glory, dies down to softness, and erupts back to it's pinnacle. It defines transition of eras, no matter the time.
In my opinion, the list was as good as it could possibly be. I was just bummed to see my name was not mentioned in the list of those who contributed. Oh well I guess... :(

It's a good list. Mine would be different, but that's the point right, nobody can agree on the best songs of anything becuase music is so personal.
I think it would have been a good idea to have made it a top 20 rather than just 10. I mean the SNES and Genesis got top 20s so there's no reason to limit it for this. It wouldn't stop the complainers, but more music is always a good thing.

That song is just a bunch of metal cliches rolled together into a forgettable music shit-pile. There's about 2 dozen tracks in the Metal Slug and KOF soundtracks that bury that tune, and about 5,000 other game tunes that are more memorable.

Can't say that I can't understand why you didn't grow up with them so that's not so bad I guess. I am correct to assume you didn't take any of them into consideration? Just curious.
I am very dissapointed with the lack of contra, being a retro gaming site, i would have expected contra in the place of duke nukem, and i was a huge duke nukem fan, "Any gamer with a electric guitar will agree" you say..
Well i say the first video game songs i tried learning on guitar we're the first 3 contra levels, wily stage 2 (amazing choice btw, so many great megaman songs, i would have picked this one as well), and oh god, the only song from ff7 worth mentioning. which i believe i dont have to mention, Classic Nobuo Uematsu at his most "Metal".
Zelda theme, being a worthy top 3 candidate, i still believe mario 1-1 should have been #1.
Speaking of metroid theme's as well. Any rock/metal/video game fan needs to check out Armcannon's version of the super metroid theme, its pretty amazing. Their album is available for purchase online, google it. No i am not affiliated with them in any way, they just rox0r my sox0rs.

I think they listed every single G1 in the credits. A great list but instead in my list the MGS theme is #1 because it was one of the first video game themes I have ever heard and one of the first video games I have ever played. Like I said before on the forums and I am gonna say it again,it kicks ass and never gets out of your head. Thank GOD for Dr. Wily's theme of MM2 which I have as a ringtone...lol, you can babble all you want about Zelda... Yes the theme is absolutely awesome.
But Dr. Wily...is 8 bit greatness, the best of 8 bit music is Mega Man 2.

Honestly...the only thing I'm sad that your top 10 is missing guys...is a Castlevania track.
what is that picture? i dont think its related to the list. Its got all kinds of macho dudes with swords and guns. I guess that somes up a lot of video games these days. but this is about music, so i think it should be a picture of craig and jose playing wiimusic and looking like fools.
For such a controversial top 10, the choices are really good. Of course, main themes are usually the most popular while not necessarily the best, but oh well. Donkey Kong Country, I was totally hoping this one would be picked. Willy's Castle, yep, that's definitely a winner.
The only thing that doesn't fit imo would be Secret of Mana, and the absence of Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger has the best soundtrack of all time, period. Hopefully the port on DS coming soon will make everyone discover or remember just how every song in that game is a masterpiece.
Mario Land's theme song (Birabuto) has to be the most underrated Mario song ever too.

Great list.. but... no Contra?
I am very dissapointed with the lack of contra, being a retro gaming site, i would have expected contra in the place of duke nukem, and i was a huge duke nukem fan, "Any gamer with a electric guitar will agree" you say..
Well i say the first video game songs i tried learning on guitar we're the first 3 contra levels, wily stage 2 (amazing choice btw, so many great megaman songs, i would have picked this one as well), and oh god, the only song from ff7 worth mentioning. which i believe i dont have to mention, Classic Nobuo Uematsu at his most "Metal".
Zelda theme, being a worthy top 3 candidate, i still believe mario 1-1 should have been #1.
Speaking of metroid theme's as well. Any rock/metal/video game fan needs to check out Armcannon's version of the super metroid theme, its pretty amazing. Their album is available for purchase online, google it. No i am not affiliated with them in any way, they just rox0r my sox0rs.

can't be wrong here or at least i think that way, there's so many absolutely great music that you cant go wrong, but the true is that it's even harder to make it right there are so many ties in my opinion that it would be ridiculous to summarize a list.

I think they listed every single G1 in the credits. A great list but instead in my list the MGS theme is #1 because it was one of the first video game themes I have ever heard and one of the first video games I have ever played. Like I said before on the forums and I am gonna say it again,it kicks ass and never gets out of your head. I also like the God of War theme because it completly matches the game because in the end.......THERE WILL ONLY BE CHAOS!

Thank GOD for Dr. Wily's theme of MM2 which I have as a ringtone...lol, you can babble all you want about Zelda... Yes the theme is absolutely awesome.
But Dr. Wily...is 8 bit greatness, the best of 8 bit music is Mega Man 2.

what is that picture? i dont think its related to the list. Its got all kinds of macho dudes with swords and guns. I guess that somes up a lot of video games these days. but this is about music, so i think it should be a picture of craig and jose playing wiimusic and looking like fools.

For such a controversial top 10, the choices are really good. Of course, main themes are usually the most popular while not necessarily the best, but oh well. Donkey Kong Country, I was totally hoping this one would be picked. Willy's Castle, yep, that's definitely a winner.
The only thing that doesn't fit imo would be Secret of Mana, and the absence of Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger has the best soundtrack of all time, period. Hopefully the port on DS coming soon will make everyone discover or remember just how every song in that game is a masterpiece.
Mario Land's theme song (Birabuto) has to be the most underrated Mario song ever too.

Fear of the Heavens sent chills down my spine. Maybe that was just the wind blowing in, but god, I need to find my damn cartridge, thing has been missing for like 6 years... unless someone stole it from my lost archives along with Knights of the Round and a few other old SNES games.

Christ, I'm glad they didn't put in any of the over-produced and under-creative tracks from the MGS series. That would have been almost as bad as including something from Halo. I get the feeling they didn't consult Jose too heavily on this one.
