g1 PekoponTAS brings us a pretty original Top 10 this week as he takes a look at a genre of games that ruled the 80's and 90's. What are his best? Do you agree?
Who knows, maybe we'll make the official list of Top 10 2D Platformers soon...
It's not a bad list, but all these games have been already added to that list. But how the hell can you not add the game Jazz Jackrabbit 2 on your list? This is a game everyone keeps missing, one of the best 2D platformer ever made. Someone should really review it.

Holy cow! This is awesome that this was posted! Thanks ScrewAttack! :)
Though now that it's on the front page, I'm more worried about comments than ever. *nervously drums fingers*

You made a great list and an entertaining video. Besides the screwattack community usually never post crap about other peoples videos. They only argue over the "1st post"

Don't get your hopes up. This place isn't as bad as GameTrailers, but there are a few around here who simply aren't satisfied no matter what, and love reviewing the video with the simplest of insults rather than intelligence.

You think a minor thing like the end of the world will do me in?
Wow, unique list indeed. I mean I do not agree with any of the list. That is a first. Still it was a very cool list and diffrent from what other people would have done. For me Mario would be #1 and it would be one of the old ones. Then again who would want to watch Mario be #1 again? Controversial videos get more views and that is the way it should be.
I was one of the few people who played drill dozer when it came out. It was a really good game but #1? OK I guess but not really.
Oh and I would also have had Shinobi 3 on that list. One of the greatest games ever. And if Megaman is on the list I wouldout Contra and Gunstar hereos and Metal Slug and Metroid. And really, depending on how you look at it, Zelda 2.
A good list, brings back many good memories. Although I disagree with most of your choices. It was nice to see some recent platformers in the list instead of only the old ones.
I agree about Rescue Rangers though, that game was awesome.
Nice list man, I think i'll go check out Drill Dozer. I pretty much agree with this list 100%, theres nothing I think should've been added. It's good that you went with one game per franchise or else the list would consist of 4 Mario games, 5 Kirby games, and Drill Dozer. Oh and New SMB FTW!
Submitted by Moccamonster on Sun, 06/21/2009 - 4:51am.
It's awesome that you can make such a list with games that were prominent in the older generations, but not let yourself be taken away by nostalgia too much.
you also had very good arguments on each game.
i'm one of those who don't like yoshi's story very much, because it's simply too easy. even with the honey melons thing. besides that it is just too childish for me, even when i was young.
i liked yoshi's island a lot more. but nevermind ;)
Kirby Superstar (or "Fun Pak" as it's called here in europe) was definitely one of the greatest games i can remember from my childhood. i had the most fun with this game when i played it with a friend in co-op mode, which was just great.
it's also from my point of view the most grown-up kirby game, compared to the dreamland series for example or the one on n64. each power up had his unique style and that is why this game is one of the best on the snes!!!
You basically made a list which hundreds and thousands of people will disagree with and went with your own opinion. And that is why this list is awesome.
Submitted by Marleau12 on Sun, 06/21/2009 - 6:09am.
Whenever people create their own lists, they're using their own opinions based upon the games they've enjoyed or played. It shouldn't be awesome just because its "different".

Its a clever list that doesn't take in all the infamous platform titles. Chip N Dale was definately one of my favourite NES games and was also one of the best platformers on the console! Good mention of Mickey Mouse as i used to spend hours trying to complete that game! Gonna try & find an emulator version of Drill Dozer now!
Submitted by JedahDoma on Sun, 06/21/2009 - 8:59am.
I really enjoyed the video. Mainly because of your choice of games. While it may be true that standards such as Sonic and Mario are great, it's good to see some other lesser known titles get the limelight. And the factthat you have Rocket Knight Adventures in your video makes it full of win automatically. Keep up the good work!
Submitted by Tabijinka on Sun, 06/21/2009 - 10:02am.
Great list, while i dont agree with all of the games being the best in their series for this list, they're all at least brilliant games, and the ones i havnt played all look great and ill try and find them, especially that drilldozer one.
(if you've played them, you'd agree)
strider
bionic commando xbla
viewtiful joe
Nights into dreams
Super mario land 2 Yoshis Island
kirbys magic paintbrush
castlevania dawn of sorrow
new super mario brothers
demon blade
super metroid

It was cool to see some recent games featured, like New SMB and MegaMan 9. You usually expect people to only consider games from up to the 16-bit generation. I wish developers created more platformers nowadays. We have much more possibilities with the current technology.
Plus, watching this video was a nice way to know about some games I haven't played yet.

Why'd you put earthworm jim on the title page but not on the list? just to trick me, is that why you did it?

Mario, you lucky bastard.

i think it would be a cool idea if nintendo started to release some newer versions of these games. i would buy kirby alstars for the wii if it included all the classics with the same look as subspace emicary from ssbb or the same look as new super mario bros wii. we need some more throw back titles in todays market on home consoles in my opinion.

I disagree with nearly everything but I think it's cool you had the guts to not just go with what's normally considered the best. (Mario, Metroid etc)

Kudos
Oh dang!
I didn't know they re-released SuperStar Sage on DS! I need to get that one. Thanks a lot!
Good top 10, it's nice to see all those games that are usually left out in favor of SMB3, Sonic and Metroid.
Not bad at all!
Give yourself a pat on the back, man! Great list.
