There is absolutely NOTHING like being able to pick up packaging, looking at it, turning it around, staring at the art, reading the neat little bits of text... It's so authentic and I love it.
Edit: Why the hell was this also posted as a reply when I posted this as a regular comment? I wish this website would stop doing that as I see it everywhere.
This kind of goes with the server one but yeah, having a digital-only copy of something definitely can cause problems. If the thing doesn't work then you have to jump through several hoops to get it to work (including proving that you purchased the item). However, there are merits to the digital-only format and it's kind of a natural progression. This isn't that different than the jump from cartridge to CD, it's just the next step.
I too perfer a physical copy of the game over a digital one, however if is a game or song for my iTouch then I don't mind having a digital copy. To me it's all about the price.
MUST OWN IT PHYSICALLY! If it has a physical copy, I don't give a shit, I must have it. I have several PC games most people have digitally, eg I have Amnesia on physical disc. Why? Because I like actually owning it in my hands.
This is why I refrain as much as possible from digital purchases. It just doesn't feel right to purchase something for 60 dollars that you can't hold in your hands.
I have actually stopped caring for the whole "I NEED A PHYSICAL-COPY-thing". Takes up way too much space in the end and I don't see the point anymore. I wish consoles would catch up on PC's day one-digital model.

I like being able to get my expansion with out even leaving my home
I also like not needing the space (which I so DON'T have) to have a big ass book shelf like the one in this picture in my house.

Well, seeing as you covered GOTY editions in a previous number, you know this is not necessarily true. GOTY edition means you have it physically.
FrankHaggar
Yeah your right. Crew.. you mest upp a bit xD

Not true, as many GOTY editions just come with a code packaged in that allows you to download it for free rather than it actually being on the disc.

when my digital copies won't be accessible because of companies shutting down or some other reason i won't hesitate and put on my pirate hat

When something fails, poof. It's gone/ruined.

This Is why I like to physically own games. It gives a feeling of Responsibility.

Though I don't fully agree with this one, it is fun to be able to take out the bat and destroy something when you hate it.

If you touched it, it would kill you.

Well not all DLC are digital... which is weird when you think about it... They're very few games that actually have physical retail DLC discs.

Amen.....F%@# this Digital era we're living in.

STOP!
Hammertime!

You see that picture? I recently rid myself of that. Takes too much space.
iluvpopcorn23
The picture or the collection? Had to get rid of the picture to make space for the dlc...
chrisat928
The collection. I paired down my 5,000+ game collection to under 300.

As sad as it is to say, isn't that the way all gaming is heading these days :'(

I want to be able to gaze at my gaming collection and feel proud of myself.

now I feel bad that the first Nintendo console I owned was a Wii, had to play a lot on virtual console.
Hunt3rpwns
I have a similar problem. I think that i have a bad PS3 collection even though I have a ton of games on PSN

This is the one thing I will agree with. While the push to digital is admirable, I would still like a physical copy in my hand.
Tom the Iron Man
I have to give the Infocom games and their concept of "feelies" credit for making me want the material stuff.
Still a sucker for collectors editions because of that.
PC Games unless it is something that was long over due (like Starcraft 2) I'm strangely okay with going digital. Consoles? Probably won't happen ever.
darkhyrulelord
I.....MUST....HAVE IT....IN....MY....COLLECTION!!! I know that feeling...
