Actually I am going to say that Mario was the first console game to have dlc. Ok, it wasn't dlc as we think of it today, but with the e-reader and deck of cards, you had new levels in SMB3 (or SMBA4).
Im sorry but wasn't their a large outcry from people for Nintendo to get DLC this is why I cannot stand video game sites sometimes. "Nintendo needs to get it together, have an online network that allows for downloadable titles, and downloadable content" and now to "Nintendo is doing DLC, why?" come on
Hypocrisy is huge, in gamer opinions, imagine how confusing it is for developers who listen to their fans haha, they're like "What the hell do you all want from us!"
how about you can do the first 3 dungeons to get the master sword, or you can pay $5 and get it right away......for a week.....or $15 to own it forever!
Nintendo... "You were the Chosen One! You were supposed to destroy Microsoft and Sony, not follow their terrible business practices! And to bring balance to the game industry, not leave it in darkness!"
What. With all the bitching and moaning about "Nintendo needs to get it together and be like Sony/Microsoft." Adds DLC. "That's not what I meant/wanted" You can't get the good without the bad most of the time.
"So far" is the key phrase, no telling how they will use it in the future, as unlikely as it may seem they too might join in using DLC in corrupt ways.
True, it's only been a short of amount of time that Nintendo has spent with DLC. I'm hoping that Nintendo continues to use DLC in an ethical manner. But if they begin to abuse it, I will be bashing Nintendo just like all of the other DLC whores.

No but New Super Mario Brothers 2 is certainly the first Nintendo game to have DLC.I don't really count patches as DLC.

Didn't people want Nintendo to get into DLC? Besides, they haven't "abused" the idea of DLC yet, and i doubt they will.
Superzone
Yeah I'm not worried about Nintendo DLC. I think they'll be very reasonable with it.

What's next? Downloadable weapons and quests for the next Zelda game?

How is this a bad thing? So far Nintendo has released DLC in an ethical manner(albeit only one piece of DLC).
