Personally I like having physical pre-order bonuses, like shirts, hats, or various figurines. I remember when I pre-ordered Castlvania Chronicles, I got this cool 2d plastic Simon Belmont, it was awesome!
tbh the majority of it tends to be released a month later or with the GOTY edition so if you stupidly pre-order a game rather than wait a month, get it for 75% of the price and not get a ridiculously small extra bonus (its rarely more than slightly different outfits or gun you wont use)
Yeah that sucks balls! Sometimes you get the game and it has "Exclusive to (retailer)" printed right on the sleeve, because nothing makes a game collection complete like having Resident Evil 6: Walmart Edition!
Usually they just end up releasing the content as purchasable DLC down the road...most of the time....usually.... YO FUCK YOU SQUARE-ENIX FOR NOT RELEASING THE RETAILER DLC COSTUMES FOR FINAL FANTASY DISSIDIA 012, RAAAAAWWWRRRRRRR RAAAAAAAAGE!!!!!
Even BioWare is guilty of this as well. Last time I checked, the Terminus Armor and M-490 Blackstorm Projector still have not been available as purchasable DLC for Mass Effect 2. I saw the weapon on the Gamestop commercial and thought it looked really cool, but the only reason I didn't pre-order ME2 is because I haven't yet played through the first one at the time.
This is the only one on this list that I really hate too. Especially since only offer we usually get is the Gamestop one and all other pre-order content isn't even available to us.
Most of the time the extra preorder is a mere help at the early game or just plain cosmetics. Every item in Darksiders 2 was and at lv30 is worst than items already in the game.
Depending in the game I usually do the opposite(buy from where they offer me the least bonus) as I want the original experience of a game not the beginners helper but usually you can unequip/don't use the Pre-Order DLC and sell it but that again helps with resources early if that matter in a game.
I most of the time don't like this DLC because it might change how the game is experienced in the early stages or when not used even later on because of the additional resources. Not selling means extra inventory space is used up or anything in that way.
Also and it is a rather small issue: It changes the demo experience.
This I will have to agree with....sure we may get the DLC from particular store bonuses in the future but depending on the game it's slim and that's totally fucked up!
SSX did this with their latest game. To get Eddie (his best board) and Mac's best board you had to buy the game twice, not including the other caracters.
At launch yes, this is an honest point of contention.
HOWEVER (gripe aside), Rockstar and Bethesda have both been really good at releasing their preorder DLC on Xbox Live (and I assume PSN) for a very nominal fee one year after the launch date. I was able to get all the preorder DLC for Fallout New Vegas, Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire eventually. Yes it might not be as good as instant gratification but it still obtainable at some point. I can't say the same for every other publisher.
Exactly this. You don't really have to buy the game multiple times, and no one really does. But if you just, you know, play the game? Eventually you'll get everything you want.
Most of the time that is correct and even moreso some of this DLC is only really useful at the start of the game, like the Mercenary Gun Pack for Borderlands from GameStop which was only really useful till level 12 (and you couldn't even use it until you hit level 3, LAME!), but in other instances there's gear you get that I ended up using for the rest of the game. Case in point: The Deadly Assassin costume in Red Dead Redemption that gave you double Dead-Eye and the Classic Starter Pack from Fallout New Vegas that gave you a stronger 10mm pistol and a canteen for water (especially useful if you're playing on Hardcore Mode). While you could certainly power through it and finish the game without it, it does give you an edge, not a substantial one but an edge none-the-less.

Physical pre-order bonuses, like art books, keychains, etc. are awesome. But in-game pre-order bonus content can kiss my ass.

Remember when physical pre-order bonuses were relatively consistent throughout retailers? I miss those days.
Sidescroller Def
The bonuses are all good, but you can only get one with each copy of the game? That's low.

I'll agree that this is really annoying, but I also understand why they do it.

Now this is by far the worst of the bunch.

Gives people different reasons to go with different companies. I usually just pick the best option available.

God I hate this, it took me awhile to get all the preorder characters for Gears 3. ><

This one is total bullshit. Who's idea was it to make GameStop/Best Buy/whatever exclusives?

The publisher.

If it's for a suit it's not a big deal, but just to play a level can be a little annoying.
