This is the reason I will wait for most games from now on. Timing is everything, and if I would have waited, I would have had MK for $20 with all additional characters plus the first movie and soundtrack instead of the $80 I paid for the game and the dlc, not including the movie and soundtrack. I guess I made up for it a little with Borderlands, getting it free with PS+ and all the dlc for $10.
Id rather get the GOTY considering the majority of the time its cheaper than buying the DLC, even with the PS+ discount buying Borderlands GOTY was still cheaper than buying 2 of the 4 DLC o_O.
Sure it would be nice if it offered a tiny bit more, but if the price is better than wth would it be a bad thing -.-?
Unless was this meant to be on the Love list o_O?
in all fairness, Borderlands GOTY had download codes for the DLC, at least they did on the Xbox360.....and then you have to wait 2 hours to download them all......hmmm......it would have been nice to have them on the disc.
Strangely enough, this is my least worst reason on the list. Think about it: GotY Editions are no different from other "milestone" game types. However, the apparent increase in these type of games have diminished the "value" of these milestones. "Game of the Year Edition" doesn't mean jack when you have several of 'em being released within the same year.
This really isn't a bad thing, yes I know it will likely be more expensive then just waiting, but you know what? You got to play the game before all the other people who waited did.
Wait. Why is this bad? They're selling the base game and all of its DLC for less than the cost it would take to buy all of the dlc, let alone the base game. And they don't do this until the game has been out for a long time so whats the problem?
The problem is for all of the people who buy the game when it first comes out and all of the DLC. Which ends up costing them potentially double the price of the GOTY edition.
It's true. I had the standard Borderlands and was considering buying the DLC in the store. And turns out selling my copy and buying the GOTY Edition was nearly half the price!
I kinda like these for late-buyer reasons. Like as shown, I can pick up GOTY Borderlands REALLY cheap, and could even do so about a year ago. It's awesome.
It is quite stupid. You could make the shallow argument that it allows people to just pick up the full package as intended, but then you're undermining the devotion of the true fans who spent all that extra money in the first place. Even my preorder bonuses for Borderlands 2 are now moot, because anybody who just buys the mechromancer also gets the golden key, hunter's relic, and golden guns. If I ever do this to my future customers, you have permission to hit me in the face with a shovel.

Which in turn completely discourages me from supporting a game when it is new.

This one actually isn't that bad if you waited to get the game. Bethesda games are great GOTY edition buys in my humble opinion.
Yourname942
GOTY Editions are a Great thing (they let you download them for free) and if you buy the disc a long time after the release you save a Lot of money.

God-fucking-dammit!! Mortal Kombat, Borderlands, Fallout 3, and now the Mass Effect Trilogy! Shit!!!

This is why I'm never a day one buyer...
chrisat928
If people don't buy when the game is new, there will be no game of the year edition.

This is why it's awesome to be prudent and rather than jump at a game immediately after release, you instead buy it later.
Unless you pre-ordered a Collector's Edition. Those are always good.

this is why you should add a year to the game release date.

You don't see Nintendo releasing a Super Mario Galaxy GOTY Edition, do you? ...Ok you think SMG2, but that's not the point.

I'm surprised you guys didn't include a Capcom picture instead of this one.

Yeah, it is a bit of a bummer for those that get games day one, but not so much for those that wait I guess...

Well at least you didn't have to pay 10 buck to use the most adorable character to ever be in a FPS... scratch that. To ever be in a video game.
