My friends always told me it was Rye-you. Heck even Robot chicken pronounced it like that. It wasn't until about 4 years ago when I got a PS2 when I learned I was pronouncing them wrong.

Once you learn a little Japanese, it's like... ohhhh.

The original SF4 announcer pronounce, Ryu as, Mew.

people had trouble pronouncing the names of the characters? really?

None of these were ever hard for me to pronounce. I don't get what everyone's issue is.

i used to call Ryu Roooo and it really pissed off all the Laosian guys at my local arcade

Re~you, Zan~geif, Suh~gott. It wasn't until recently that I stoped pronouncing Ryu as Ri~you.

I pronounce them Rye-u, Zangeef, and Sa-gatt.

I never had any problem with their names, but maybe that's just me

And to do this day people still mispronounce Ryu's name as "r-eye-u" and making themselves sound like jackasses in the process.
