12 New Capcom Characters for Marvel vs Capcom 4! (And 3 That Should Return)
Whether you ended up liking it or you didn't many a fighting game fan jumped for joy when Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 came out. Aside from the insane combos, juggles, and supers, another fun thing to do is to guess which of your favorite characters will be included in the latest addition to the Vs. series. So now that MVC3 has come and showed off its stuff I figured its time for me to list 12 of the Capcom characters that I would like to see in the next installment, AND 3 Capcom characters from previous games that I feel should return! And yes I will also do this for the Marvel side of things!
Coming from the obscure Red Earth game only released in the arcades, Tessa would fit right into the crazy and over the top world of the Versus series. Its surprising (as with most of these entries) that Capcom hasn’t capitalized on this character yet. A witch that can cast spells and use her cat to attack? Yes please! Capcom get on it! Oh and for the love of Jebus port Red Earth already!
Its sad that Rival Schools hasn’t made a bigger splash on the Versus series (with the only crossovers being Kyosuke in Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Batsu in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom). While Batsu, Kyosuke, and Hinata may be the obvious choices to represent the series I’ll go a different route and stick with my girl Ran. Why? Because she attacks with her camera of course! Imagine how jealous Spiderman would get!
No, not that Ryu! Normally you may not think of Capcom as being an RPG company but indeed they’ve delved in the genre with their Breath of Fire series. Aside from the plethora of sources you can get from an RPG franchise the deciding factor for adding Ryu to the lineup has to be his unique ability to transform into elemental dragons. Just imagine the chaos! Remember how insane things got when Sonson transformed into an Oozaru?
A series that is just as insane as the Marvel Vs series, Power Stone has its fair share of over-the-top supers that come in the form of the Power Stone transformations. For this reason it would be fun to see how the cast of Power Stone would fair against comic book super heroes. But if I had to pick just one it would be Accel. Because cowboys that transform into robots is always a good time!
Ok I get that MVC3 already has a wrestler (Mike Haggar) but you have to look deeper. Victor Ortega held the title for so long that he disappeared because there was nobody that could beat him, including Haggar! One look at this roided up muscle head and you’ll know why the Capcom team could benefit from having somebody that could match the Hulk’s muscle mass! Plus you can NEVER have enough suplexes in a single game!… EVER!
Darkstalkers was already well represented with three of its leading ladies, but I think its time to bring in a little bit of the XY chromosome into the fun. There are plenty of awesome fighters to choose from in the series but my bet would be on Jedah, the end boss to Darkstalkers 3. Not only can he attack mercilessly with his knives and blades, but even his blood can be used to get a one up on the Marvel cast. And aside from the Joker can you think of anybody else that can make a purple suit look so badass?
With Jin’s absence in Marvel Vs Capcom 3 there was a void to fill in a character that could call on command the help from a giant mech. Enter Devilotte. A spoiled little princess who just so happens to pilot such a giant mech. With the help of her mech, the S-008 Super-8, and her two lackeys (Dave and Xavier), Devilotte would not be one to mess with. And if B.B. Hood is any indication you wouldn’t want to mess with a little girl with such big fire power.
Despite the fact that P.N.03 didn’t do so well financially and critically, I still personally enjoyed the game for what it was. Being a shoot’em up done in 3D, Vanessa Z has enough fire power to make a big splash in the fighting arena. And although Trish pretty much took this role in MVC3, Vanessa’s acrobatics and stylish dodging maneuvers would insure that she could replace Trish and take the femme fatale role to another level. After all, it seems like without Captain Commando there’s been a lack of sci-fi in the Versus series as of late.
It seems like the Marvel Vs. series could benefit from looking over at how things are done from its sister series, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom. Soki represented the Onimusha series very well in that title and I think its time to pit Capcom’s samurais against Marvel’s best. And why not start with the star of the original Onimusha, Samanosuke? Besides being a cool samurai he also has the ability to transform into a more powerful Oni form which could even the odds against Marvel.
It’s down right common knowledge in the gaming world that Strider is one of the most awesome characters around. What’s less known is that other characters from his own series can be equally as awesome as well. So here we have Solo, Strider’s bounty hunter rival. With the help from his jet pack and his impressive arsenal of weaponry, Solo could be Capcom’s answer to Marvel’s Cable. After all who wouldn’t want the chance to play as a badass bounty hunter?
Even after appearing in Namco X Capcom and as a helper character in the original Marvel Vs Capcom, these two still haven’t gotten the courtesy to be given proper names. The Unknown Soldiers from Forgotten Worlds could be thought of as the Rambos of space. They have so much fire power that they were able to take down an entire army led by a God. Let that sink in. They killed a GOD!… with nothing but guns! They deserve their chance in the spotlight.
Here’s where my list gets a bit strange. Many of you may have never heard of Princess Tiara. She originated from Gaia Masters, a board game simulation title for the Dreamcast that was only released in Japan. She has the ability to transform into a knight capable of fighting with a rapier. Aside from this it seems like Capcom already had the idea to include her in Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, so even they see her potential (They didn‘t because of time constraints). Don’t let her looks fool you, this is no Princess Peach.
I think every old school Capcom fan let out a collective groan when we saw that Captain Commando didn’t return in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Despite having only appeared in one title (two if you count Section Z) Captain Commando left quite the impression on gamers when he returned in the original Marvel vs. Capcom. Devastating moves, a memorable look, and awesome sidekicks, he has all the right tools to be a memorable character. Capcom needs to bring him back. Captain Commando just belongs in the Versus series.
One thing that stood out about the Marvel Vs. Capcom series was the outlandish characters that it showcased in the first two titles. And you didn’t need to look any further than Jin Saotome. He may not look very interesting based on looks alone, but his personality outshines almost everybody else on the roster. Jin is easily one of Capcom’s most intense fighters from any Versus game. And face it, you miss him screaming out “BLODIA!!!”
Looks can be very deceiving. Nowhere is this more evident than with B.B. Hood, the little red riding hood look alike from the Darkstalkers series. You may think that a cute little girl doesn’t belong fighting the likes of Wolverine and Galactus, but B.B. Hood proved everybody wrong when she joined the mayhem in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. She could easily overwhelm everybody with her landmines, machineguns, and rocket launchers. It would be interesting to see what a 3D makeover would do to amplify the chaos she can bring.
So who would YOU want to show up in Marvel Vs. Capcom 4???
