The 12GB PS3 model is now available in North America
Your thinking of Ram. I not only installed memory for my old Xbox 360 Arcade but upgraded it to 250. The 360s can be upgraded.
he DID say add $100 for it...no clue if that would be enough.
if they had done this years ago it might have done better.. but with the next console generation starting when the PS4 and xbone launch soon it makes almost as much since as nintendo releasing their second current gen console, the wii u, last november... only a year prior to the next generation.
You cannot upgrade the memory on either an Xbox or PS3, or any console. Only the N64 allowed for Memory upgrade. (Expansion Pack)
No, this is a cheaper version for those of us who don't have one. I'd still rather buy a used one if not just wait for ps4.
Have you ever made an emulator? Are you even a programmer? It takes a lot of space and time to make them backwards compatible. The easiest way to do it would probably make some kinda partition and have the original PS3 OS in it. That would take more hardware and jack up the price. Also this isn't a re-release, it is a release of a model that they overlooked bringing to the Americas because we prefer the best of the best usually. This is for us who didn't get one to begin with. Heck I dig the PS3's PS2 vibe. I miss that old girl.
Maybe so but it would be a decent entry point. They should have done this before.
Um, I have a question. Can I upgrade the memory later like I can with old X-box360s? *Edit Okay some one already stated that you could. Thanks Orange Apples. I probably will still get mine used to make it cheaper. I still may just wait until Tax return and get the PS4 anyways.
Except a lot of sports games have big installs.
I'd consider getting one at that price, but doesn't that mean I'd still have to install the games? I could fit, what, maybe two or three on a 12Gig hard drive?
I doubt this is for the hard core gaming crowd. This console is probably for the people who hang back a generation and play all of the games for really cheap once the generation is pretty much over. 12GB is plenty if you're just doing save files and no DLC.
To add to that, you can always buy a 1TB drive for less than $100 and you've got one beefy PS3.
I wonder if this super slim can support adding in hdd's. I doubt it. But for anyone that buys it I hope so.
I wouldnt trade my PS3 fatty for any other PS3. Plays my huge collection of amazing PS games, plus I dropped alittle money for a SSD and its blazing fast. By far one of the best systems ever made.
For me, I would not find this to be a good deal at all. For my roomate, he is mainly a sports gamer and only wants his PS3 for MLB The Show, and actually had been asking about getting one recently. For someone like him who isnt about to drop 400 on a new console at launch and isnt that hardcore of a gamer, its a good fit. Would I ever get something like that? Not a chance, but I play significantly more and bigger games
Drake: Mind if I come in here?
12GB Storage Chip: GTFO
This just pisses me off. Instead of, maybe adding BC to the PS4 and charging $100 for it, they decide to rerelease the PS3 AGAIN and say it's the best way to play PS3 games while charging $200 for it. This is pure greed and screwing the customers.
If anything, you can add any type of compatible Laptop hard drives on the PS3 for cheap. It really is better than to spend almost $100+ dollars for an official 50 GB HDD from the company itself.
No. A USB cant hold installed game data, or have games on it. Many games take up 3-4 GB just on mandatory install. Also you have to factor in the size of the operating system. There are some games you couldn't play at all, like many Digital Games that weigh in anywhere from 5GB to the 40 something for Uncharted 3.
But instead you could buy a 500GB 2.5in SATA hard drive and use that, since PS3 supports that. Then you have the ultimate PS3.
considering you'd have to buy a bigger harddrive to put in to it it's not that big of a deal.. you can(for example) get a 320gb PS3 Slim ( the first slim version, not the stupid new super slim crap) bundled with Uncharted 3 for like $300... your better off getting a bundle instead of this.
Who would honestly pay for just 12GB for a PS3? As DEATHREAT says that memory will be gone in a day.
