With the release of our Top 10 Games You Should Play on the NES we found it so hard to limit our list to just 10 games we wanted to give some other games that make the NES the NES.  Keep in mind, there is no order to these games at all but they all have a reason to be played for one reason or another.   Take a look and read why we think each is deserving and then let us know what games you think everyone should play on the NES in the comments!

African state comes into existence. But its birth will not be quiet. The epicenter of screams, machine-guns and bomb explosions will be AbyeAmerisleep

Just a few off the top of my head: Kirby's Adventure (damnit!), Final Fantasy, Dr. Mario, Excitebike, Blaster Master, Ice Hockey, Yoshi's Cookie... and why not, Battle Kid; it counts because I say it counts.

Pretty good list! I expected more shmups (1943 would be my pick) and would have put Tetris into the video, but maybe that was more of a Game Boy thing.

My recommendations: First, Shadowgate. I know not everyone goes to the NES to play PC-style adventure games, but I really feel like this was able to set a mood much like Metroid did, with a completely different method. Few things get my heart beating like the music that kicks in when a torch is about to go out.

A second choice is Nobunaga's Ambition. Again, another PC-style game, but let's be honest here a moment. Most of the NES library consisted of games that had pretty simple ideas, even the classics. Mario? Right left until you reach the goal. Zelda? Find dungeon, find items, find triforce, repeat until Ganon. Mega Man? "Jump-And-Shoot Man!" (Of course, these games are classic because they refined their simplicity into incredible experiences.) Anyways, what Nobunaga's Ambition provides more complex gameplay beyond the stereotypical arcade-like action. I know that Koei made a few other games like this (Romance of the Three Kingdoms?), but Nobunaga was what invaded our house and my dad played it death (figuratively; the cart still works).

Third: Baseball Stars. I know that there are other decent baseball games for the NES, but I've always thought that this one was cool because you could make your own team from scratch and slowly build it up over time to become unstoppable monsters, something that my dad also did (basing them of the Chicago Black Sox, naturally). Not too many NES games could do that.

Fourth: Adventures of Lolo 1, 2, & 3. While Tetris is more of a twitch/reaction kind of puzzle game, Lolo was more of a head-scratcher. It's just as satisfying to finally figure out a tough room in these games as it is to beat a tough boss in any action game. Great stuff.

Fifth: Metal Gear. Another black sheep in the NES library. Lots of games are about nonstop action, but Metal Gear focused on stealth, making it instantly unique for its time.

Sixth: Gauntlet, because Gauntlet.

Because of that list I actually picked up an NES again after going so long without one. Managed to pick up Super Mario Bros, Ducktales, TMNT, and Castlevania 3 with it. It's so much better playing it for real instead of an emulator for some reason. Glad you talked me into it, thanks!
