Neither do I.
Closest thing I did come up with was in the 2012 intro, the sky is red like it was in the last two or three seasons of the original cartoon.
That photo doesn't really make a lot of sense, although I will say that there are plenty of references. I mean, I haven't seen the original show, nor do I know a hell of a lot about it, but you can tell when they're making a reference, like when Mikey whistles the original theme song (NOT the remixed version for the new show).
I agree, 2012 is getting back on track with animation. Gravity Falls, Regular Show, Adventure Time, MLP:FiM, Nick's TMNT, AND Transformers Prime. Just when all hope seemed lost. :3
Odd how the most recent cartoon is an amazing TV show of especially when most cartoons today stink, but the movie promises to be one of the most horrible and cliche motion pictures ever.
That is very true, there are still plenty of awesome cartoons today (you just have to look a bit) and new ones keep coming out. My personal favorites being MLP, Adventure Time, and Dragons: Riders of Berk.
A lot of people say there is nothing good on TV today... Boy are they wrong :)
MLP i admit has good animation, but i'm not interested in it. Adventure Time is ok, at first i felt it was corny, but once i found out about the backstory, i grew a bit more interested. Regular Show and Gravity Falls are pretty good.
I think Regular Show is overrated personally, but Gravity Falls looks really good.
Adventure Time's backstory has been improving and each season is better than the last. MLP is a tad hit and miss, I myself really like it (yes I'm a brony), but I also understand how someone else can find it less than stellar.
Have you seen The Amazing World of Gumball? Not as good as TMNT, MLP, or Adventure time but it is enjoyable and is very creative with the art style.
i don't know, watching Regular Show reminds me of all the 90's cartoons i grew up watching. I like it, but its ok if you don't. i've only seen a few episodes of Gravity Falls and the humor is clever. The Amazing World of Gumball is just, woah. i've tried watching that show, but i couldn't go through, i just changed the channel. as for MLP, yeah i don't see why people enjoy it. don't get me wrong, its ok if you're a brony, but i'm not interested. however, i think we've forgot to mention two shows: Young Justice and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
The original source was a gritty black and white indie that parodied most of Frank Miller's Daredevil run. The even references the first issue's cover near the end of the intro.
I love the pose of the original cover. So cool. Also, are you sure it was a parody of Daredevil? Most of the stuff I've noticed is a parody of his miniseries Ronin. The cover has the same style, the sensei character is called Stick, and the evil organization is the Hand. I've never read the Daredevil stuff though, so if there is stuff from that series, I'd like to know.
Stick is the one who helped train Matt Murdock, and the guy who pushed the old blind man out of the of the truck that contained the mutagen was a reference to Daredevil's origin.
Ah, I thought Stick was from Ronin--thanks for pointing that out. The other thing I forgot from Ronin was the characters Ozaki (O[roku] Saki) and Casey.

How is a city skyline supposed to reference the old show?
Payne
The pic here is a bad comparison, if you watch the show you'll actual encounter several nods to previous TMNT incarnations.

Gracity Falls Regular Show Adventure Time and now this make it into 2012 awesome cartoons

Let's not forget My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (yeah, I'm a brony. What are you gonna do about it?).

Some cartoons today are really good. Like Gravity Falls. They got the guy who did the sprite work for Scott Pilgrim to work on an episode.

It's great they don't strafe too far away from the source material.
