3DS Slide Pad confirmed, but what the heck can you play?

9/13/11 9:49am

Nintendo has confirmed that the new Expansion Slide Pad for the 3DS will launch in Japan on December 10, and they've listed a number of titles that will support the circle pad add-on.

You can snag your own for 1,500 yen (about US$20) and considering the line up, it may be worth it depending on your love for 3D... and dual analogs. Allow me to direct your attention to the following titles:

  • Monster Hunter Tri-G
  • Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance]
  • Ace Combat 3D
  • Dynasty Warriors VS

We're not sure yet if the games will actually require the addon or simply support it, although games which do support the pad will be marked with this icon:

The Slide Pad will require a single AAA battery, so no additional battery for the 3DS itself like some people hoped.  While the titles above are scheduled to head to North America and Europe, there's no word yet on whether the device is as well.

Then again, you could always just pop over to Japan and pick one up. NBD.

You know, this doesn't actually look that bad. Kind of comfy looking, really.

I feel like they should just release a new model of the system with the joystick built in. This current attachment looks awkward and gimmicky in my opinion.

Maybe we could have a pair of goggles to stick onto the screen whilst we're at it, and then use the infra-red port for local play and disable the wireless for local play to save battery power. You know, because the 3DS needs less functionality than it already has.

Why don't Nintendo just release the Virtual Boy Colour? In fact, I think I'd rather have that than the 3DS right now. I love my 3DS, but Nintendo.... what the HELL are you doing? I feel like a sucker, having gone out and bought the thing on launch day. The free games are nice, but it would have been nicer if they'd just given my damn money back because I could have done better things with it than played old games (don't get me wrong though - they're still fun. Well, except for games like Golf. Why didn't we get Super Mario Bros. 3 instead? Or anything else).

Does Kingdom Hearts 3D really need that? the one on the PSP worked without another analog.
