During a recent post-earnings financial call, Activision publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg made mention of an in-development Call Duty game, which is apparently due out in Q4 2013. Making this the least surprising game reveal since the last CoD title (and the one before that and the one before that and etc).
While he didn’t say which of the franchise’s sub-series this game will fall into (although rumors suggest it could be Modern Warfare 4), Hirshberg did say this will be the most ambitious CoD game yet.
"The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect the new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher."
But even with this apparent innovation, he also admitted Activision doesn’t believe it will see the same record breaking numbers as the release of Black-Ops II, since the company believes Microsoft and Sony will launch their next gen consoles within that same time period.
I think Activision has a good point about the possibility of next gen consoles cutting into the game’s bottom line but given just how crazy popular Call of Duty is, I don’t think the company should have any worries about the game selling.
With that said, are any of you g1s excited for another Call of Duty title? Or do you feel the yearly release schedule is causing the franchise to grow stale?
Personally, I'm beginning to wonder just how much further the franchise can go in terms of innovation at this point.

Seriously? Would next-gen consoles acually make a sizeable dent on COD sales? Seriously?

By "raising the bar" they mean adding more explosions.

We read this article every year. To them, "raising the bar" is a new coat of paint and nothing else. I wouldn't be surprised if Activision keeps a sign in their offices that states, "Change is bad."

From what I've heard during my time in college, it could be Future Warfare...granted, the Modern Warfare series is technically in the future, but given that BO2 was set in the future, it seems more likely.

didn't I read this article last year?
