[ALERT!] Battle.net has been hacked, change your passwords
Hey g1s, it looks you should change that ol' password if you have a Battle.net account. The President of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime just released a "security update" alerting users that the North American servers have had their "cryptographic" passwords stolen along with some other information. NA servers "generally includes players from North America, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia".
"In the coming days, we'll [Blizzard] be prompting players on North American servers to change their secret questions and answers through an automated process." No financial information appears to be compromised, but it would probably be a good idea to change that password anyway. You can read the rest of the letter on Blizzard's site.
I don't use my bnet account anymore but I did change my password. Thanks for the heads up.
I've done the same thing and got the same reply, so I'm not worried.
Changing the Battle.net account isn't everything. Make sure you change any account (email, Screwattack, other games, etc.) that use this password. Off topic: I had my WoW account hacked years after I stopped playing. They paid for it with a stolen credit card. I auction housed everything they stockpiled and made a mint during the 24hr free window I had to get my gear recovered. It's probably pebbles now after inflation with new expansions.
They're automatically sent to my spam folder. Eventually I emailed Blizzard about it to make sure someone didn't set up an account using my email, they said there wasn't an account with that email. So if you were ever concerned about it yourself then you're probably fine.
Same here for my swtor, but that would explain how a friend of mine got hacked
Same here, and I still get them from time to time.
You know it's funny, for the longest time I kept getting these phishing emails about my Battle.net account and how I'd be banned from World of Warcraft. The only problem? I didn't HAVE a Battle.net account and have never played WoW.
I haven't played StarCraft in years. I wonder if someone out there is making my account look better. I tended to get wiped out in 5 minutes by a small group of marines before I get to build anything.
although europe's servers weren't hacked for some reason.
I just change my passorwd
glad to hear you got things sorted.
That's pretty much a concern for me. I changed up some stuff, though, so it should be all good.
it specifically stated "dial in" & "mobile" authenticator data, that doesn't include the Physical Key Ring authenticators so if you have one of those I wouldn't be too alarmed as about the only way around those is to physically steal them.
I have a Physical/Keyring Authenticator to avoid JUST this issue
according to the update they managed to obtain the server side authenticator data...
Yeah! I'm looking at YOU CAPCOM!
TY for the alert. Blizz gets attacked by hackers so much, it was bound to happen. Thank god Blizzard actually told everyone that they were hacked. I can think of a few companies that would keep that info to themselves to save a few bucks.
This seems to be the theme for the new decade: If it exists, it's going to be hacked.
I know this may sound a bit heartless, but just for comedic sport, let's place bets on which site/corporation/group is going to be hacked next; bonus points if you specify by who too.
This is why authenticators are our friends.
