For those interested in ordering a Steam Machine from Alienware, the company revealed some potentially bad news in regards to their plans for these machines.

Alienware states their version of the Steam Machine will not be upgradable and feature limited customization options in regards to ordering one. Updated features will only be featured in new models which were revealed to be released on an annual schedule.

Alienware's  general manager Frank Azor statement to TrustedReviews:

"There will be no customization options; you can't really update it. The platform will continue to evolve as the games become more resource intensive."

Alienware even went as far to hint to not order their Steam Machines and instead order their other PC products if those were the main reason for purchasing one from them.

"If you actually want to customize your Alienware Steam Machine, maybe change your graphics card out or put in a new CPU, you would be better off with the standard Alienware X51. This particular product is restricted in its upgrade options."
