Anonymous targets Sony over SOPA

12/30/11 2:20pm

Hactivist group Anonymous is targeting Sony again for their support of the Stop Online Piracy Act bill.

They released another one of their robot-voiced YouTube messages, letting Sony know that they will be the main objective of their "Operation Blackout" campaign. They promise to "destroy their network" in retaliation.

It's not just Sony they're after. Anonymous also promises to take action against celebrities who support SOPA, including Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa, Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber.

This would be the second time in a year that Anonymous has acted against Sony. Their previous DDOS attack took down the PlayStation Network for a few days (they claim they are not responsible for the attack that lasted for a month).

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I do not and never will condone the kind of actions Anonymous takes, but it may give Sony a small idea of the SOPA bill could cause for online businesses. I do think that we have to take a stand against this bill, but cyber-terrorism? Call and write to your congressman and senator. That's how it should be done.

Look on the bright side. At least they are after Bieber.

Calling & writing to the state senator won't do any good. They get countless phone calls and letters daily, and all of'em are ignored.

More havoc and mayhem please. Does EA support SOPA? If they do, they'd deserve this much more than Sony. Oh yes, I said deserve. I'm entitled to my opinion.

I may not agree with the means but if the end is SOPA failing I feel like I may just turn a blind eye. Freedom isn't free people. Traditionally it's been bought with bullets (weather right or wrong has able been decided by the victors) and now it's being fought virtually. I got a stock pile of games to be played that doesn't required PSN so I'm well dug in and prepared for the long Winter that may await me.

People forgot the old days.

So shortly after Sony withdrew support, I checked Anon's twitter and THEY'RE STILL GOING TO ATTACK THEM. WTF? Look, ever since the outage last April I have been very against any kind of hackers whatsoever. This is just the final nail in the coffin for me. Anon, for what reason do you have to hack Sony now that they withdrew support? Up yours. And to everyone saying we deserve being hacked, how would you feel if you were attacked? It doesn't matter if you're part of PSN. XBL, or Steam. Non one should be hacked. Ever. An attack against one of these networks is an attack against all of us. It's time for all of us to unify in these times of needs. In conclusion, Fuck you Anon and Fuck you to anyone who supports Anon or any online network being hacked.

I'm not sure what to think this time anon's action might doom the possiblity of getting this law thrown out, but on the other hand the fact that sony is still "indirectly" supporting sopa might justify them getting hacked again. Either way sopa is still very bad, it must be destroyed and make sure it never comes back.
