Anonymous targets Sony over SOPA
Hactivist group Anonymous is targeting Sony again for their support of the Stop Online Piracy Act bill.
They released another one of their robot-voiced YouTube messages, letting Sony know that they will be the main objective of their "Operation Blackout" campaign. They promise to "destroy their network" in retaliation.
It's not just Sony they're after. Anonymous also promises to take action against celebrities who support SOPA, including Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa, Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber.
This would be the second time in a year that Anonymous has acted against Sony. Their previous DDOS attack took down the PlayStation Network for a few days (they claim they are not responsible for the attack that lasted for a month).
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I do not and never will condone the kind of actions Anonymous takes, but it may give Sony a small idea of the SOPA bill could cause for online businesses. I do think that we have to take a stand against this bill, but cyber-terrorism? Call and write to your congressman and senator. That's how it should be done.
You can watch the full declaration below.
Taylor swift is great i like him and her songs that's makes me crazy once i go on Taylor Swift Concert Tickets where i find many enjoyment and much more.
Look on the bright side. At least they are after Bieber.
Calling & writing to the state senator won't do any good. They get countless phone calls and letters daily, and all of'em are ignored.
More havoc and mayhem please. Does EA support SOPA? If they do, they'd deserve this much more than Sony. Oh yes, I said deserve. I'm entitled to my opinion.
John McClane will sorth them out, just like he did Timothy Olyphant!
Yeah sorry if I come off strong but you kind of have to look at the situation from a PlayStation Owners POV. We already got hacked once this year and I have become very overcautious. If the end of SOPA means we have to suffer again, I'm sorry but I can't support that. I don't like SOPA but this is not the way to stop it. I admit that I may be a bit of a PlayStation Fan but my words are genuine. No one should be hacked ever.
Civil disobedience at it's finest.
Thanks for the asnwer ;D
I'm not sure what to think this time anon's action might doom the possiblity of getting this law thrown out, but on the other hand the fact that sony is still "indirectly" supporting sopa might justify them getting hacked again. Either way sopa is still very bad, it must be destroyed and make sure it never comes back.
Hey dude don't take this the wrong way your making yourself sound like a sony fanboy, and if you did more digging, sony is still supporting sopa .
Oh so fitting, makes me want to watch the movie again. And God is it an awful representation of how hacking is done. But no one would watch a movie with a person typing commands into a command line. Though watching a program compile is pretty entertaining to me. I miss Gentoo, Ubuntu isn't nearly was fun to use.
I may not agree with the means but if the end is SOPA failing I feel like I may just turn a blind eye. Freedom isn't free people. Traditionally it's been bought with bullets (weather right or wrong has able been decided by the victors) and now it's being fought virtually. I got a stock pile of games to be played that doesn't required PSN so I'm well dug in and prepared for the long Winter that may await me.
People forgot the old days.
When anonymous just did shit for laughs.
For conflict and Nihilism.
So shortly after Sony withdrew support, I checked Anon's twitter and THEY'RE STILL GOING TO ATTACK THEM. WTF? Look, ever since the outage last April I have been very against any kind of hackers whatsoever. This is just the final nail in the coffin for me. Anon, for what reason do you have to hack Sony now that they withdrew support? Up yours. And to everyone saying we deserve being hacked, how would you feel if you were attacked? It doesn't matter if you're part of PSN. XBL, or Steam. Non one should be hacked. Ever. An attack against one of these networks is an attack against all of us. It's time for all of us to unify in these times of needs. In conclusion, Fuck you Anon and Fuck you to anyone who supports Anon or any online network being hacked.
Should have looked harder. Those three companies still support SOPA, just in a roundabout way.
No. No, they didn't. They got you to drink the Kool-Aid is what they did.
My buddy (KamenRiderGekko) always said Anonymous was probably just the government pretending to be hackers to gain support for this stuff and now, if this video is legit, I am feeling inclined to agree with him. Though I think the video is a little TOO over the top to be legit, like they're trying to copy off the Laughing Man from Ghost in the Shell and everyone knows that the duller-minded masses LOVE those kind of theatrics.
I feel like I support them. But I know for a fact I don't. I don't support cyber terrorists and I don't support SOPA. I hope this declaration is only that: a declaration.
By the way, the video said "Therefore, YET AGAIN, we have decided to destroy your network." So they DID do it last time. Now everyone knows for sure, if there were any doubters in the first place.
I think you need to look a little deeper in to the SOPA bill. its not just as simple as dont download this song or this game or this movie, its much much worse...i have to say im 100% with Annon on this one.
Call your congressman and senator, start making rallies on the streets or online, and start signing those petitions. Do all of these to ensure that the government knows that passing the bill could lead to increased piracy and a lower degree of stability, which is something that will get their notice.
