Author suing Ubisoft is review bombed by loyal AssCreed fans

4/19/12 4:00pm

So that dumbass who is trying to claim Ubisoft stole his idea with the Assassin’s Creed franchise just learned a rule about the Internet. Don’t fuck with irate fan boys. His Amazon listing for the book which he claims inspired the Assassin’s Creed universe has been review bombed to all hell, with the number of reviews increasing from 1 review to over 32 in less than 24 hours.

25 of those reviews are only 1-star. My favorite review is from user Ezio who “noticed a lot of elements were stolen from Assassins Creed. What a sham! Makes me regret my whole purchase, shame on you”. Who knew fictional characters could get so butt hurt over a lawsuit. I will be keeping an eye on this, especially since the lawsuit is attempting to block the release of Assassin’s Creed III. Pfff! Fat chance that will happen…

The way this guy is taking things, it seems perfectly fine for Nintendo to sue him for using the word Link as the title

I hope Ubisoft takes him down in an incredibly embarrassing way. Just wipe the court floor with him.

As big an Assassin's Creed fan as I am, I started following this story the moment I heard AC3 may have been in danger...all because of an author who doesn't realize that this world is filled with rehashed ideas and concepts. As a writer myself, you learn to come to terms with that. It happens. So long as it's not word-for-word, you have no right making such strong claims.

That being said, I don't think bashing the author's book is the proper response to this lawsuit (despite how funny most of the comments may be xD). If this author truly feels that he's been cheated or stolen from in any way, I guess go with how you feel *shrug*

What I will say is that this man better hope that nothing happens to AC3. Pray that nothing happens to AC3. Whether it be delay or otherwise. Just saying.

Didn't this exact same scenario play out with another author? This seems strangely familiar...

The worst part is that Writers do get a shaft really bad and people take IPs constantly from them. So this isn't uncommon and the best part is that fans of the series wouldn't even know it was the author's idea that they are in love with, but keep bashing him.

Now the question is it true considering all the other Assassins Creed games why hasn't this happened sooner?

That is a question.

I'd be inclined to agree with your statement, but considering that this came out several years after AC started, it starts putting serious doubt into the author's claim.

Oh totally, I'm not saying there isn't doubt, but there could be doubt for both parties.

No, the worst part is that the claim is bullshit and the author was just probably just waiting for the series to cross over to a United States setting before doing anything because he figured that's his best shot at trying to cash in. THAT's why the wait was so long.

I don't know as an upcoming writer, I can sort of see why. Not saying either party is right because well I can't make that claim since I've done nothing in law. Writers are the most defensive about their IPs because well it's a lot of work done for maybe little to no pay off.
