I remember reading rumors of Crystalis 2 being a Neo Geo prototype, but nothing ever surfaced about it. It's a shame because a Crystalis sequel on the Neo Geo MVS or AES hardware would have been awesome. I would certainly have hunted down an MVS cart if it was real & was either released or reproduced by some seller.
thats awesome! i never heard of that game
There is a spiritual sequel called Evil Quest on XBL Indie games and PC. Not made by the same people but it was clearly inspired by Crystalis.
i never even knew about the turbo grafx 16 growing up, so ive never really had any exposure to its games. had i have been more familiar with neutopia, it would have been a cool addition to the list
thanks, i put alot of thought into what games made it on there. i have a show where i review forgotten games like those. its called trashed classics on youtube. give it a look and tell me what you think. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2106D074B0850715&feature=plcp
thanks. yep it on psn.
Crystalis was amazing. i remember playing it when i first started getting into rpgs. i was snk would try there hand at another one
I disagree that the Zelda series has gone stale, but I do like this list. The only game I have out of these is Ys Seven (I also have Oath in Felghana & need to get the other 2 games on the PSP that were available in the U.S.).
My favorite game that's somewhat like Zelda is Crystalis for the NES. It's pretty different than the Zelda games in many aspects, but much darker, and I think it's a shame SNK never made a sequel.
maybe the sequel will do it for me
Really? I enjoyed it a fair bit. It wasn't something spectacular, but I feel it managed to blend the two games pretty well.
ill be honest with you. i didnt really like darksiders. its an interesting setting, but nothing really reached out and grabbed me with that game.
Great video :) Never really got into Rpg`s and Adventure games although i do enjoy Pokemon and Mario&Lugi:Bowser`s inside Story for the Ds. Going to play Wind Waker this Summer and thanks to your Video, Maybe Beyond good and evil. You can get it for the PSN right?
Well, I woulda thought Darksiders would be ideal there. It keeps the style, but changes the combat, tone, setting and style of lore (to God of War, but still, something very different to Zelda).
okami is great and so is 3d dot heroes, but when trimming it to 5 titles i had to go with the games that were enough like zelda while still changing enough of the formula to improve the experience. i didnt want to put 3d dot heroes on the list because it was a little too close to the source material. im not saying any of those games were bad, but the idea was to broaden the horizons of the zelda player, not have them play pixel perfect homages.
For once, I agree. Fulchrum is completely right. Okami is classic.
Good picks. Lots of hidden gems that don't get talked about enough.
...really? No Darksiders? No 3D Dot Game Heroes? No Okami? Those are pretty much the titles I point people to when they ask for different spins on the Zelda formula.
