The Awesome Controller is... Awesome!
Ok, so a few guys are apparantly kickstarting a controller port to play classic video games. Ever wanted to play your NES games with your Xbox 360 controller? No, well now you can! With the Awesome Controller.
I honestly have no idea what these guys are trying to accomplish, but it's still pretty cool. Check it out, fund the project if you'd like. But in the end, what good will it do?
Wait, I can play Super Mario 64 with my PS3 controller? YES!!! I'm so funding this, that would be AWESOME!!!
Get it? Cause it's called the Awesome Controller?
I appreciate it, I will look into it. I don't know what mic was used but there was just so much echo and the volume of whoever was speaking was just so low it just......well......I guess I don't need to explain myself. I appreciate it.
Well, that guy in the video was me. :)
I'm pretty sure I said "roh," which is how I always say it. The audio isn't great, so I can understand the confusion.
In either case, I am a lifelong gamer, we seem to pronounce it the same way, and anyone who disagrees with us is a Communist!
that doesn't really seem to solve the problem, if I'm reading it right. If you're suggesting the "roh" part of the Scooby speech, it would still be "Ch-roh-no Trigger", and the guy on the video says it like "Ch-rah-no Trigger". If I'm not misreading, you seem to be contributing to my side of the argument.
...of course, I was just being my usual sarcastic self, and really don't give two craps either way. I just like being weird.
trying to hard the movie
It's a good thing we're not selling audio post-processing software! (We're going to try to clean it up a bit more.)
There's a transcript in the FAQ section if you want to read what we're saying. You can even pretend that it's being read by someone talented like Keith David or Jennifer Hale.
BAD AUDIO IS BAD
I couldn't even figure out what they were saying and gave up after the Tecmo Bowl inspired cutscene.
agreed with vic_viper why do you need a wii controller or a ps3 controller to play older games? they run on batteries which is the most annoying thing about the new controllers in my oppinion
We played 4 hours of Mario Kart 64 with our prototype the day we got classic controller support working. It was different, but that doesn't mean it wasn't tons of fun! Once we got the joystick calibrated, the person playing with the Awesome Controller was totally competitive.
We're going to host a gaming tournament sometime soon, and we'll be sure to publish statistics on Awesome Controller vs. original controller.
I like the original controllers as well. But I love wireless, and I also love joysticks that don't flop around like a dead fish (15-year-old N64 controllers).
My living room has a 360, a PS3, a Wii, and an SNES. The SNES is woefully out of place without a wireless controller, and it's pretty exciting to sit on my couch totally untethered.
Ooh, that's true! We could probably write some code for USB if you're willing to give up wireless for a 360 controller.
We'd be even more likely to do it if we hit our $15k goal. :)
I'm also a 360 fan, especially for shooters. (Not so much for 2D games, though.) The issue is that the Xbox controller is proprietary RF, while the Wii and PS3 are Bluetooth. We'd love to do RF in a future version, but it's cost and time prohibitive in V1.
Maybe we'll take a crack at modding an Xbox controller with Bluetooth sometime...
We do want to make a controller in the future and/or mod old controllers with Bluetooth. Gotta start somewhere, though, and we already have fancy new controllers around!
Kyle from Awesome Controller here.
Luckily, since I have PERFECT DICTION, this is an easy question for me to answer. If you look at the Japanese cover art (http://firsthour.net/screenshots/chrono-trigger/chrono-trigger-cover-sup...) or Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrono_Trigger), you'll see the Japanese character "ro," which is pronounced like Scooby Doo says "Ruh roh." Your pronunciation may differ, but the way I pronounced it is canonical.
Feel free to contact me if you need canonical pronunciations of any other video game names.
FUS RO DAH.
THANK YOU!!That's what I'm trying to tell everyone. It's a great idea because you use any controller on any system.I think you might be wrong about not being able the 360 controller. One of the adapters has a USB port on it.You would need the wired controller,or just use Play n' Charge, but it would still work.
Well yeah, but the thing is you're still limited to what the Wii supports.I honestly think this a great idea.Idea it allows you use any controller on any system.I'm all for it.
Who cares,it's still a great idea because it allows to use any controller on any system. That is an idea I've wanted to see for a long time.
Same here, but I guess having a universal controller for all gaming systems of the present and the future is too good to be true as of now.
Call me a purist, but I think all systems should be played with their respective controllers. Though this would be a acceptable substitute in a pinch, I kinda like where they intended to go with this.
The Virtual Console exists in case I want to play NES games using my wiimote. Besides, there's no way it would be the same playing an N64 game without its iconic controller.
I like the idea. Most people have (sadly) gotten used to the Dual Shock and you cannot deny that the N64 controller is simply uncomfortable (not to mention the wonky joysticks on overused controllers), so it's a fun concept to get new-school gamers more easily pick up the controller they're used to and play classic games consoles.
Using a USB-like interface with interchangeable cables for different systems also makes it a lot cheaper to buy the dongle and the connectors separately.
Too bad the '360 wireless interface can't be used, I personally find it far more comfortable than the Dualshock and Wii classic controller.
