Black Ops 2 pre-orders are 10 times that of its predecessor

5/4/12 5:00pm

Last year, Modern Warfare 3 set records for being the fastest selling video game of all time. Within days of being revealed Black Ops 2 is well on its way to breaking that record. This would be the fourth consecutive time that Call of Duty would break its own record. An Amazon US representative has told GameSpot that

“Preorders from day 1 of Black Ops II were more than 10 times the amount of preorders for the first Black Ops on its first day of availability… Black Ops II even out preordered the first day of availability for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by more than 30 percent."

It seems like there is no stopping the monster that is Call of Duty, despite even us thinking the series might be due for a break. Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be coming to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on November 13. We will keep you updated on Treyach’s new cold war as we get closer to its release.

If it was Metroid Prime 4 I'd buy it day one, if it was Fear 4 I might consider buying it used somewhere down the line, but there is no way in hell I'm going to fall for the scam that is the COD series.

Fans of the COD series can have their cake and eat it, but I'd rather eat the turds that go by the names of Zelda, Ys, and Xenoblade Chronicles because I have no taste in quality games.

I HATE when people talk like that. Sure, you may not like the series, and I have honestly no problem with that. In fact, I could probably agree to a point on why you don't like it. But calling it tasteless? That's pretty much saying that everyone except you is wrong.

Again, you're calling CoD junk food. Not really wanting to argue about it, but maybe someone like me doesn't consider it junk food?

While I am interested in this new Call of Duty, I'm curious on how this game can get numbers like that. I thought by now, everybody would've been bored of it and moved on to the next fad. While the Call of Duty games are fun in their own right, the games are released so close to each other that there's not enough room to add enough new and interesting things. Granted, the games are made two different studios who switch out every year, but regardless, I really think it'd be a turn for the better if Activision slowed down the release of Call of Duty games. The developers have more time to add more things and polish existing content, while gamers get to enjoy a better game and save money.

Unlike the mass majority of the Internet, I don't want to see Call of Duty die. I just want it to rest for a little bit.

Turn Back The Pendulum

To be honest the way I think the cod fanbase works is they are not tired of a yearly release, to them they like getting something new every year, and to be honest cod is mainly known for multiplayer and while people play it for the campaign and this new game shows, the people that play it like having new stuff, not playing the same maps over and over. While the older games have a decent population that will still play it, thats not the case for other gaming franchise such as Halo, By year 3 and after reach the game was not the same in numbers. I think they do this to avoid loss of intrust. While this might have the oppisite effect on non fans thats not who there catering to. And to be honest since there is two studios it would be nice for them to release a cod game every other year so they could have a 4 year development time. But the problem is cod is so popular that changing it like this might not be the best thing, activision has a good thing going and trying to derail the train and change might have backlash . They have people that buy there games every year in high numbers for them to take a break would not be a good business move since cod is the top shooter. In a way I get what you saying but cod is to popular and successful that it can not switch now. When it looses a good amount of steam then I see it happening.

PS you said "The developers have more time to add more things and polish existing content, while gamers get to enjoy a better game and save money." This is not always true, and there are plenty of examples. Though I wish the statement was 100% true that would of saved so many games.

I pretty much agree with you Pendulum. I kinda see it like in regards to Marvel movies: I like getting forward to seeing a new Marvel superhero movie each year, and I eagerly anticipate it. I don't get bored with it, and I always hope for the details on the next one. With that said, while I think a longer development cycle could help, their customers have helped them build up the steam they now have, and stopping it would be both bad for the franchise and bad for business (they aren't greedy enemies, but they ARE running a business that is proving fruitful).

Besides, I've kinda chosen to only stick with the Treyarch CoD's, so I get two years out of it, but I don't have worry over when they are going to make the next one.

COD isnt the Satan of games it is just funny uncle of the gaming family everyone likes him when he first comes, but after awhile people get bored and annoyed of him until the next year and then the cycle starts again
