Blizzard officially dates Heart of the Swarm expansion for early 2013

11/13/12 5:01pm

Previously leaked on the Battle.Net page hosting the game, Blizzard has since confirmed that Heart of the Swarm will be arriving on PC March 12th, 2013. It will be compatible with Windows (XP, Vista, 7, & 8) and Mac OS. You’ll be assuming the role of Kerrigan, as the Queen of Blades takes the fight to the Terrans following the events of StarCraft 2.

There will be multiple versions including the digital and boxed Standard Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, and the Collector’s Edition. Mind you this is an expansion. Here are the details regarding the various parts of each edition, but personally I don’t need all that crap. A digital download to a game I already own seems fine by me.

Digital or Retail Standard Edition -  ($40)

  • Holy shit, it just includes the expansion.

Digital Deluxe Edition - ($60)

  • It includes the digital copy of the expansion, with the following additions
  • StarCraft II Torrasque: Crush the enemies of the Swarm with the indomitable Torrasque, a fearsome new look for your zerg Ultralisks.
  • StarCraft II Battle.net Portraits and Decals: New Swarm-infested Battle.net portraits and decals help you customize the look of your online profile and in-game army.
  • World of Warcraft In-Game Pet: The Baneling companion pet is bursting with enthusiasm and ready to explode onto the Pet Battles scene.
  • Diablo III Blade Wings and Banner Sigil: Grow zerg-like wings in honor of the Queen of Blades, and unfurl an exclusive banner sigil to mark your allegiance to the Swarm in Sanctuary.

Collector’s Edition - (First Born)

  • It includes a DVD copy of the expansion, all the above content from the Digital Deluxe Edition, with the following additions
  • Behind-the-Scenes DVD and Blu-ray: Immerse yourself in the StarCraft universe with developer commentary, interviews with voice actors, and an in-depth historical retrospective on StarCraft's eSports legacy narrated by key members of the community.
  • Collector's Edition Soundtrack CD: Enhance your Heart of the Swarm musical experience with this collection of more than a dozen tracks from the game.
  • Heart of the Swarm Hardcover Art Book: This 144-page tome features never-before-seen art from the expansion, including early concept sketches and meticulous 3D renderings.
  • Zerg Rush Mousepad: This Collector's Edition mousepad depicts the Terran Dominion holding out desperately under the onslaught of the Swarm.

I've forgotten how cheap an expansion pack was. I'm still getting this retail. There is no way I'm putting my bank details on blizzard's site after some douche took my account for a joyride in world of warcraft. I did get the game for free with a free 30 day trial which i never used.

Kinda wished that they didn't split the campaign into 3 separate games. While I don't expect Blizzard to not release them all, I do hate that they don't have a fixed schedule to release the game. Wings of Liberty came out in 2010, Heart of the Swarm in 2013... and Legacy of the Void in 2017 ? Ouch... how about the second in 2011 and the last in 2012 ? At least, it would be consistant.

Sadly, as much as I hate Blizzard's must be connected to play single player... I do love some Starcraft and I will be getting this... sadly...

In this case, it's not true for Starcraft as you can at least use a guest account. You just can't play multiplayer nor use custom games.
