It’s been a good 14 months since the launch of Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and many within the game’s community are wondering why it hasn’t received the same number of updates (mostly referring to a lack of DLC characters) as Capcom’s latest crossover fighter Street Fighter X Tekken. As it turns out, the answer is a fairly obvious one.
When asked about the issue via Twitter
, Capcom's Ryota Nittsuma explained that Capcom hasn’t updated the UMvC3
roster because of licensing issues.
Remember, Capcom would need Marvel’s permission to add new character’s from it's half of the roster and getting that permission isn’t always easy. Although Nittsuma did offer his apologies to the community for the lack of updates.
“I am truly sorry. I am sorry, but I can't explain it all here. Due to various contract issues we can't do updates the way SFxT does.”
As a fan of the game, I’d like to see more characters (for a fair price mind you) added but I can understand Capcom’s position on this one. Although I’m left wondering why Marvel hasn’t insisted on adding new characters with the various new films and comics its has been promoting since the game’s launch. Not too mention all of the fan requests.
Heck, wouldn't Disney want another piece of the action?
Oh well. Maybe we’ll see more fan favorites get their time shine in Marvel Vs Capcom 4…what? That game would have to be developed eventually right? Even if it does take another decade.
Thanks to g1 KongK4 for the news tip. :)
