Capcom announces both the Save Transfer and Online apps for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate arrives today
While it was recently announced on Hard News that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was missing two features, Capcom has announced on their Capcom Unity blog both features/apps should be arriving this Friday on the Nintendo eShop.
One app called the Data Transfer Program allows the ability to transfer saves between the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game while the other app called the Packet Relay Tool allows the 3DS version of the game to be played online through the use of a Wii U. The Wii U version of the game does not need the Packet tool to be playable online.
The actual reason behind the delay was not explained although Capcom did apologize for the delay and inconvenience. Capcom Unity community liaison Greg Moore posted on the Capcom-Unity blog.

Wait, lemme see if I understand this now...the 3DS version will be able to go online if you're playing with the Wii U version as well, instead of just local connection play? 'Cause I got both copies, and that would be awesome!

See? That didn't take very long at all. Please commence kicking yourself if you threw a tizzy about this.

Guys, help me out here. If i get the 3DS version, do I have to own de WiiU version to play online, or do I just need the 3DS version, the WiiU and the app?

Think its just a Wii U and the app needed since all it does is act as a router/modem for the 3DS version. Not completely sure though.

It's just too bad you can't play characters off of the same save file at the same time... Kinda ruins any multiplayer that doesn't have a separate SD card.

I wish they would implement full online access for the 3DS. I don't have a WiiU.

That would a little hard...

You should've thought of that when you had money to spend on the Wii U which was probably spent on better things anyway.
