Capcom is predicting a huge return investment for Resident Evil 6
Capcom released its latest earnings report earlier this week and within this report is a very bold prediction concerning Resident Evil 6.
The company revealed to its shareholders (and the general public via the Internet) that it's expected to sell roughly 7 million copies of the game world-wide, which would make it not only the highest selling Resident Evil game but the highest selling Capcom game of all time!
Capcom is also predicting that it will sell 2 million copies of DmC, 1.5 million copies of its upcoming RPG Dragons Dogma and 1.4 million copies of Lost Planet 3.
But getting back to Resident Evil 6 for a moment, could this bold prediction become a reality? Considering the hype and excitement surrounding the game and the fact that it'll likely do better than Resident Evil 5 (the number 2 highest selling Capcom game ever at 5.8 million units sold), it very well could.
What do you think g1s? Do you think Resident Evil 6 can accomplish this record-breaking feat?
Oh and if you're curious, Street Fighter II currently holds the record of being Capcom's highest seller with 6.8 million copies sold.

By SF2, do you mean SF2? or are the bajillion variations and versions of SF2 included?

I'm curious. Between the Gamecube version, the Ps2 version, the Ps3 and 360 rerelease and the Wii version, how many copies has RE4 sold?

Seems reasonable, especially since the sheer scope of the game is going to increase the hype of the game among most of the gaming cummunity. I Mean having an outbreak of global proportions, having both Leon and Chris in the same game, and the enhanced combat system will draw people in. Then again if the game continues to focus on action elements of gameplay instead of the horror elements, many long term fans may decide not to buy it. Many fans think the gameplay should return to a more re4 toned style(And occasionly even the older games), which had more balance between horror, puzzels and action when compared to re5.In the end that will be a huge factor in determining the games popularity(although day one dlc could also affect that too, i guess).

I think it may break 7 million copies. Capcom fans are blindly devoted.

I really want it, but I think I'm going to hold off for a price drop on this. Not because I don't support the game but I feel that there will be a lot of material DLC to go with it. I'd rather try to get it cheap so when I buy the DLC it works out about the same. That or wait for the 'Gold Edition' like everyone else says.
Not being whiney, I just think that's Capcom's (arguably everyone's...) business model now, and this is my way of working with that.

well... I'm actually hyped for the game just by watching the trailers. not a first day buy, I'll wait a little longer.

Quite an expectation but this game from what I've heard has 600 people working on it while most games that come out for the 360 and PS3 only have about 100 or so.

I'd say RE5 was WAY more hyped and a lot of people were very disappointed with that one. Also, they've burned their fans so much I'm willing to bet a lot of people will not buy it and just wait for their "RE6 Gold Edition" with the on disc DLC already unlocked. Operation Raccoon City was also more of an "action" RE game and I don't know the numbers but I'm pretty sure it sold poorly. If RE6 reaches HALF of their predicted numbers, I'd be surprised.

I'm hoping that gamers, for their own sake, skip the day 1 launch if there is any hint of on disc DLC. I'm fortunate not to have been burned by Capcom since I haven't bought anything from them since the gold edition of RE5 and I'll be damned if I will let them charge me extra for something I already bought.

I thought RE 5 was at the 7-8 million mark but I guess that was just estimates. I can see RE 6 getting to 7 million easily and a lot easier if more consoles get the game later on.
