Capcom's European branch preparing to layoff around 50% of its entire staff.
According to a report from the MVC, Capcom of Europe is currently preparing to do a major restructuring soon with about half of its total staff expected to be laid off. A bulk of the layoffs will be due to jobs being merged together in order to reduce the amount of staff needed at the company.
A spokesperson for Capcom of Europe stated the official reasons for the move is due to the need to readjust for the upcoming console generation and poor overall sales in the West this year. The poor sales was being attributed to several of the company's big status games released this year failing to meet their sales expectations.
A spokesperson statement to the MCV:
This would be the second time this year major restructuring was done by Capcom with restructuring done at their US branch a few months ago. While only a few were laid off, it did include Christian Svensson, who was the chief of the US branch at the time.
Considering how Resident Evil 6 sold millions but was still a failure, Megaman being cancelled or not wouldn't make a difference.
Now would be a good time for some other company to come in an buy it out, let's just hope it's not EA.
Ugh...this is not fun. I mean...yeah, Capcom closing would mean Inafune could get Mega Man back and SNK could pick up Street Fighter but...the kid in me from the 90s and early 2000s who would play Breath of Fire 1-4, and Megaman X-X4 along with CvS2, Street Fighter Alpha 2-3, and others is just so sad at this.
Now I feel sorry for the laid off employees. Capcom- what has happened to you...?
It really does suck to see more people being fired. It goes to show how bad of a crash the industry is facing right now. Honestly if Capcom didn't cancel all of those Mega Man games they might have a little bit more money right now. How ironic that they thought it would be a waste of money to make a Mega Man game, and now they're out of money.
I thank God Nintendo didn't fire anyone a few months back when the Wii U was tanking. People say Nintendo should fire people but that would accomplish nothing other than disrespect. Than again, disrespect is what got Capcom in this ditch in the first place.
I feel sorry for the employees and I wish I could give them jobs, but Capcom should just die already, give Nintendo Mega Man, give Sony Monster Hunter and be done with it. Resident Evil will go somewhere not sure where though.
I feel sorry for the employees of capcom. I feel more of this will happen soon enough....
It souhds like they really are struggling. Feel sorry for those who lost their jobs.
Hopefully those staff members will find a less douchey company to take them in.
Hey Capcom here's an idea, start selling your IP's that you aren't doing anything with.(Besides saving them for guest appearances in MvC.)
Capcom is not going to last much longer if stuff like this keeps up.
