CD Projekt Red states The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will not be ported over to the Xbox 360 and PS3 during a recent interview with MCV India.

The CEO of the company, Marcin Iwinski, stated porting to those systems would be impossible mainly due to the way the game has been developed on the PC. He stated too much of the game would need to be changed to the point it would likely end up as a completely different game than on PC.

“It’s impossible. It would have to be a different game–a smaller game, not an open-world game, or with terrible loading times, with sacrifices in graphics.”

He did hint one of the big reasons why the PS4 and Xbox One ended up being included as platforms for the game was due to their closeness in structure to the PC.

Iwinski also denied any speculation of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings ever getting a  PS3 port stating the difficulties porting the game to the Xbox 360 dissuaded them from doing any more ports. He claimed a PS3 port would likely have needed around double the time it took them to make the Xbox 360 version.

“We definitely would have loved to, but The Witcher 2 on PC was so big that making it work on Xbox 360 took us a year. The Xbox 360 was a more powerful and easier-to-code-on platform than PS3, so that would have taken us another year or year-and-a-half.”
