Come and listen to the tale of Sing Hero, the musical sensation that never was

1/3/13 3:40pm

One of the biggest cash cows for Activision was the Hero series of music games. I say was because after Guitar Hero and its many, many competitors and copycats began cluttering up store shelves to the point that the marketplace for music games had become over-saturated. Since then, Activision had to put the series to rest (although I think DJ Hero should have stuck around), but before the publisher did away with its music titles, another Guitar Hero spin-off game, entitled Sing Hero was in development at Pi Studios.

According to Siliconera, Sing Hero was a karaoke game, which measured your singing ability by the number of digital fans you’d be able to sway into following your group.

While Activision has recently re-registered the Sing Hero trademark, the game (or at least this version of it) is dead, since Pi Studios is now closed.

Here’s look at what Sing Hero could have been:

Given the slew of karaoke games that had already existed (and continue to exist), I think the market’s just a little too crowded for Sing Hero to find or have found success, so Activision likely made the right call to cancel it.

What do you think g1s? Would you have gone to Sing Hero to fulfill your rock star fantasies?

If people really wanted to just karaoke, why not just play with only the vocal modes of Guitar Hero or Rock Band?

The re-registering does give me pause... Activision couldn't possibly be trying to "duel" with Wii U's SiNG, could it?

I have rock band and guitar hero (All of them) and I would still buy this for some new songs that I might not already have

I got my Rock Band 3 and the xbox's free Karaoke app (plus over 2000 karaoke songs on my computer), so I would have virtually no need for this game.
