[Community Showcase] Fake Mario Kart being sold on the App Store

1/13/12 4:20pm
tl;dr

A new game called Mole Kart is now available in the Apple app store for the iPhone and iPad. Originally called Mo Er Kart, the title is suspiciously similar to Mario Kart. But there’s more to it.

Mole Kart is practically identical to Mario Kart, just with cheesy mole characters. The stages and overall gameplay are pretty much direct rips. Check Out This Trailer

Shanghai Taomee Network Technology, the developers, didn’t put much effort into being discreet with this blatant copy. Since Nintendo has no plans of releasing any iOS games, Mole Kart will sell fairly well as a substitute since a knockoff is better than nothing is for those who want something cheap and similar.

Nintendo, on the other hand, won’t be too happy with this or with Apple for approving the app, and are probably already filing a lawsuit and will see that they win the case.

My god, all the stages in this trailer are clones of stages from Mario Kart Wii. This is a gigantic insult to the series, and I absolutely hate how Apple approved this.

How is this Mole Kart when there is clearly a polar bear as a playable racer?

cut these guys at least a little slack, making a new ip is insanely hard and it is vastly more easy to re-skin an established one, you are already playing into an established fan base and publishers like to hear that, I mean gameloft has made a company out of doing just that, just check this http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/07/05/10-best-gameloft-games-for-ios-a... I am not saying it is right or wrong I am saying it is a bussiness choice that some developer can choose to make and it can be very profitable

You seem to forget that:

1) Actually using the same assets as the original game is a criminal offense, and it obviously is using the assets of Mario Kart.

2) Gameloft actually licenses the games they develop.

This is the kind of stuff that only respectless, cold hearted monsters would do. Plus the frame rate is just terrible. If Nintendo dosen't sue, I will.

putting the hate aside they actauly did seem to put some effort into reskinning mario kart, you can't fault the art team who actauly did a good job, the programmers can suck it on the other hand, it's funny if you actauly go to the app store page for it you only get like ttwo real screen shots and they don't show how much of a clone it is

on the other hand it's kinda cool having a nintendo game on my iphone, i kinda wish the ACTAUL nintendo would man up and do it themselves though

Why do I feel that Nintendo and Apple would not get along...

They could have at least tried to make the levels and items look different. Bouncy mushrooms? Thunderbolts? Really?
