[Community Showcase] Rumors about Rocksteady's next game
Paul Gale (the guy behind Title Fight) has shared that Rocksteady, the developers of Batman: Arkham City, may be working on a new game known as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis. This will supposedly be a darker take on the TMNT franchise and will share similarities (such as combat) with the Batman games, but there will be comedic elements between the turtles and notable characters.
All the turtles are meant to be playable and will have their signature weapons and own move sets. There are also flashbacks where you play as Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi. This is just a rumor, but if this happens I will be very happy
Here are the details straight from the Paul Gale Network:
-
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis is the alleged name of the title.
-
Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are the four playable characters, each withtheir own varied move set and weapon of choice (sword, bo staff, sai, and nunchucku…respectively).
-
Flashbacks are played as Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi.
-
Shurikens, smoke bombs, grappling hooks, and climbing foot spikes.
-
Gameplay and story/stage progression similar to Batman: Arkham City.
-
Classic characters such as Bebop and Rocksteady (warthog and rhinoceros), Dr. Baxter Stockman, Shredder (Oroku Saki), and Krang act as bosses and in the case of the humans-turned-mutants, you fight them in both forms throughout the story.
-
The Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp will be present and with them and other gadgets, the Wii U build is expected to have touch screen controls for specific actions.
-
Multiplayer is unknown.
-
Graphics engine used is that of Arkham City.
-
The game is expected to be more dark than slapstick, but the turtles themselves and their interactions with the Foot Clan, bosses, and story characters like April O’Neil and Casey Jones will still have comedy attached.
-
Purportedly being in development for Wii U, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
-
Careful selection of voice actors to bring the universe to life as well as Rocksteady did with their two Batman games.
-
Manhattan Crisis shares a similar name to the 1991/1992

Why does everything have to be "dark" to be considered "good" these days? What I liked about the Ninja Turtles was how fun and bizarrely humorous it was. I really don't want to see TMNT go down the same road as Barman Arkham Asylum or any of the other plethora of dark "gritty" M-rated beefcake melee weapon spamming brown and grey tinted "hardcore" games already flooding the market.

I'd honestly need to change my pants TWICE if this is true. And my god, wouldn't it be amazing if it had co-op? Or at least some multiplayer component? It'd be like if Reshelled wasn't a piece of crap!

Batman SHOULD be dark, it fits it far more than the cheesiness it used to have. But if the Riddler's 4th wall breaking insults, Jokers jokes, and the Scarecrows mindfuckery are any indication, Rocksteady knows how to have fun too. And if they're any bit as into TMNT as they are Batman, then they damn well know how to do good on the series mythos.
Basically what I'm saying is that they showed a lot of respect and genuine love for Batman, and if that same care goes into this (assuming it's true), then you can't call yourself a TMNT fan unless you give it a chance.

well let's hope they actually do something good out of it although wasn't the original Mirage TMNT comics really dark? maybe they are basing from that but I don't know. I grew up with the TMNT from the 80's, loved that series to death!!! ;D

TMNT was already a dark comic as is. So why not?

This is exactly what TMNT needed! Thank goodness for Recksteady! Making good characters have good games.
