Crytek opens a new studio in Texas with former Vigil Games employees as part of the staff

1/29/13 12:00pm

Crytek announced earlier today they have opened up a new studio located in Austin, Texas with the bigger news of former members of Vigil Games as part of the new staff.

The former co-founder of Vigil Games, David Adams, was revealed to be the new boss of the studio while the "core" of the Darksiders development team was also revealed to have been hired in tact. Altogether about 36 employees from Vigil Games ended up being hired by Crytek for the new studio.

Confirming the announcement was a tweet from the president of THQ which praised Crytek for the hirings especially since it could mean a future for the Darksiders series.

Jason Rubin tweet:

"Great news for Vigil, at least the core team: http://goo.gl/LaQKt  Thanks to Crytek for saving as much as they could of a fantastic team."

FUCK YES! Good for those of Vigil who were successfully hired into Crytek, and my condolences to those who weren't, but now we have a chance of the Darksiders series continuing!

Good show Crytek, although they already said they weren't gonna continue with Darksiders...(yet?)

Technically Crytek only owns the team and not the series. They need to purchase the series in the next auction if they actually want to continue the series.

hold on, but they didn't acquire the ip rights from the auction, right? so, where does the rights go? Jason Rubin? is it still in limbo?

Still with THQ but another auction was announced to happen in a few weeks.

My guess is that Crytek is preparing to buy the rights to the IP, if they've hired the core team of Vigil. I'm sure they can get it for just as cheap as they got the Homefront license.

Good on ya, Crytek. Now if only they could pick up the Darksiders franchise too. I mean think about it, Darksiders with Crysis level graphics? Freaking amazing.
