Crytek teases Crysis could be moving out of the FPS genre after Crysis 3 is released
In a recent interview with Dusty Cartridge, the lead producer of Crytek teases its possible future Crysis games could move away from first person shooter genre with Crysis 4 as the possible start in a new direction.
The basis for Michael Elliot Read's statement was due to the current Crysis series being envisioned as a trilogy which Crysis 3 will end in terms of storyline reasons, and as a way to keep the series fresh for the future. He also mentioned it will be up to the designers to make the actual decsion regarding the series future.

Hey guys,
There's an awesome FREE achievement tracker with guides to Crysis 3 on the App Store: http://appstore.com/game-achievement-tracker
Has all the achievements, you can toggle them yourself OR sync with XBox Live, looks pretty good!

Crysis is the only series of shooters I have really enjoyed this gen, and I'm glad that it's gonna end before it overstays its welcome.

I've only ever played Crysis 1 and I gotta say that it was not a good FPS. There were so many issues with the game and the only major thing it had going for it was, "it looks pretty".

What? Crysis 1 is my favorite shooter of all time! I love every bit of the first 3/4 of it. (And the last 1/4 wasn't too bad). I'd like to hear what you thought its many issues were. I loved how much freedom you had in completing your objectives. You could go in guns blazing, or you could be sneaky. You could come in the front door, or try to find secret entrances. Or jump over a wall and make your own entrance. You could snipe from afar, or charge in with a vehicle with explosives stuck to it. The physics and the suit made for some really satisfying gameplay; turning invisible, picking up enemies and throwing them through walls and roofs, using them as shields while you shoot over their shoulder, tossing them off cliffs or into other enemies. Feel like being super sneaky? Use stealth and plant explosives all over the enemy base, then blow up the whole thing and everyone in it. The multiplayer was great too. I loved how you were rewarded for playing well by ranking up and getting access to better gear. Capture factories so you can build tanks, air, AA and more. Then, finally, build up enough cash to buy a nuclear weapon and coordinate with your team to protect it so you can destroy the enemy base. If you couldn't tell, I played the hell out of that game and its sister game Crysis Warhead. It certainly had a lot more going for it than just its graphics.

Those all sound great but they never worked. Since you said it was your favorite shooter I know I'm not going to convince you of anything, just putting that out there now. But there is no stealth mechanic to the game. It is designed to make you think you can be sneaky for certain parts but then it throws you into a situation where you have to fight your way out, making the whole thing worthless. The suit wears out of power so quickly that if whoever you're trying to sneak past is more than 20 in-game feet away, you're screwed. That's not even mentioning the seemingly omnipotent enemies that not only are marksman from a ridiculous distance, there's also the enemy vehicles that just know where you are even with the invisibility on in the middle of a thickly wooded area. Also, having to empty close to half a clip into an enemy to kill them is ridiculous, I was legitimately left wondering who had the better body armor in the game. Picking up enemies is not a viable option in the least due to the fact that you have to be right up in their face and facing them a certain way; and grabbing a guy apparently lets every enemy in a 5 mile radius know exactly where you are too (again omnipotent enemies). And the weapons are hit and miss too, some really suck and unfortunately those are the ones you're stuck with most of the game. Vehicles? Not that bad but not that good either. I was expecting something akin to Battlefield 2 but instead got...Call of Duty 1. Then again, the tank in the first COD game was better than the p.o.s. tank you get in Crysis.
I haven't even bothered with the multiplayer because frankly, I'd hate it even worse. I play games for the single player with a few exceptions. Needless to say the plot of the single player was forgettable. I can't even remember what most of the missions were other than, "Go here and kill North Koreans." At least when the aliens started showing up there was a bit more movement and diversity with the plot.
The part that really miffed me about the game was that it damn near broke near the end of the game. I was able to run that thing at basically maxed out settings the whole way until you fight on the aircraft carrier deck. At that point the game started lagging. Even dropping the settings to the lowest possible and closing everything else on my computer didn't help the severe lag at all. I got so fed up with it that I kicked on God Mode just to get past it; if the game tries to cheat me then I will cheat it right back.
If you want a game that will actually give you variety in the play type (especially a stealth mechanic that works), play Deus Ex Human Revolution. If you want a big multiplayer shooter, play Call of Duty or Battlefield. Crysis is just a cheap imitation of other games in the shooter genre and it just falls flat on its face. Just my opinion.

You should play the second one, it was very good for an fps and actually has a campaign that is around 10-12 hours long.

Well I bought the whole collection on Steam when it was on sale before trying any of them so I may as well see if they figured out how to make a shooter in between 1 and 2. ¬_¬

If they made Crysis 4 like Skyrim. I would absolutely love it.

I can't imagine Crysis being anything other than a first person shooter. If anything I hope it turns into something that more closely resembles Far Cry 3, going in the direction of Crysis 1's more open and variable gameplay (the more ways you can go through the game, the more replayability there is), giving you a vast world to play in rather than Crysis 2's CoD-style approach.
Dark Magician
Meaning, keep the FPS, keep the semi-futuristic setting, and give it some RPG elements and make it open-world sandbox.
