Daikatana to become the bane of a new generation of gamers thanks to sudden Steam release
I wasn't trying to be rude to you. Seriously though, it had nothing to with game. It was just numbers, like any other business. It was just a series of coincidences that things worked out like that.
Kemco was just a crazy company that would do anything to make money. To my understanding though, the Game Boy Color version was only released in the PAL territories. Do you know if that was the case?
First off, rude.
Second off, considering how much the butt of the jokes Daikatana was them and how Eidos' advertising mysteriously disappeared in final months or so (and I can get the issues for you to illustrate it on my TwitPic account) leading up to it's cancellation it sure seems convenient.
Three, that was 13 years ago, and to have no official public story (not even in their final issue) as to WHY the publication went out certainly leaves people wondering. The final cover saying "It's over!" Half of those writers started cropping up in PC Gamer (to which I was also subscribed to alongside Maximum PC) and the rest went to god knows where.
I kinda wanna get it fort the lulz.
I......I kind of....want to....play it....
Wow, you just bought that story? I expected more from you, Iron Man. Do your research, before you say that much crap.
I really do, absolutely recommend this game! To everybody with a steam account. They have just enough brain cells left to actually appreciate this turd. In fact this is Steam Turd Gold.!
Well, this is a thing. I don't quite know what to say about it, but it sure is a thing all right... Hmm... Its like seeing something you'd never thought would exist for the first time. Its like seeing a unicorn only instead of filling you with a sense of wonder it just leaves with a feeling of, "... What?"
It's mostly because Wayforward want to retain full intellecutal property rights to Shantae, when you get a publishing deal the publisher retains full rights to the IP (unless specifically negotiated in the contract) so they're looking to selfpublish to make this happen.
That all aside, I still do see the confusion of "Why so easy for this bad game, but so hard for this good game" even if we take publishing deals out of the picture. What a strange world we live in.
This is the game that killed PC Accelerator Magazine because Eidos was their major provider of advertising revenue. After Daikatana's release the number of jokes about the game at their expense eventually crossed the line and when they pulled out, other ad-revenue suppliers went with them and a lot of people lost their jobs because of this game. Should it be forgotten? No. People need to learn from this mistake. Is it shocking that it just casually showed up on Steam just like *that*? Yes.
I recommend this game to everyone with a steam account.
While I am a bit curious as to the badness of this game, I probably won't get it. What's really insane is that this game got ported to the Game Boy Color. Seriously, look that up.
yes, you also have to pay steam, probably more then once.. so, i don't know.. they most likely spend half of shantae's current budget on it.
I may look at it, just out of morbid curiosity. If I do, I will film myself playing it and put it on youtube, see where that takes me.
As for your first point, I do agree. This game shouldn't be put out. But it is. We cannot change that.
As for the second, yes there will be a fee associated with a Steam release, of course. But it's no where near the actual cost of developing a full game.
I am on the same boat that you are on .
First, my point was that a good game needs additional funding to get made but this turd is being put out in the first place. And second, isn't there some kind of licensing fee or something regarding copyright that needs to be addressed in order to be released?
They want to make an entirely new Shantae game. That costs money. Daikatana exists already. Already been paid for. Porting an already PC game to Steam isn't overly difficult.
