DayZ standalone plans to release new DLC weekly
After a post on the DayZ dev blog, the game’s lead Dean Hall looks to be planning weekly installments of new content, such as new weapons, items, and clothes for the game’s upcoming standalone version. However, Hall also wants to try to keep the new content as free as possible.
When addressing the new inventory and attachment system, Hall pointed out that weapons in DayZ standalone are having to be “redeveloped from scratch at extremely high detail.” The result: “on release there will be less weapons in the standalone – but it allows us the ability to continue each week to release content updates with new weapons and items.”
Further expanding on the DLC topic, Hall pointed out that he wants to try to stray away from the problems DLC can cause by trying to release the content for free, as long as the game sells well.
The blog post also updated fans on the game’s other features such as letting players’ host private servers, and informing them that they’ll only be able to play one survivor per account. Communication on the other hand will also be getting an upgrade as Hall states private in-game chat will be available along the lines of Space Station 13…
In addition, the developer mentioned that the game’s standalone version will be a completely new experience rather then a rehashed version of the Arma2 mod…
