Deep Silver won’t be bringing Dead Island: Riptide to the Wii U

3/17/13 8:40pm

Gamers who wanted to play Deep Silver properties on the their Wii U were disappointed earlier this week when they learned Saint’s Row IV wouldn’t be ported to Nintendo’s next-gen console. Well, they were let down again earlier this weekend, as it was confirmed Dead Island: Riptide will not be released on the console either.

During an interview with Digital Spy, creative producer Alexander Toplansky said in order for the developers to build a Wii U version, they’d have to either directly port it or the game’s engine would have to be completely rewritten, which they didn’t have time to do given how much development time was spent improving the engine they already have.

"Neither one of those was a satisfactory outcome for us, so we decided to do what we got platform-wise and just make sure that we can deliver the best experience we can."

Well, Deep Silver’s decision to not bring either Saint’s Row IV or Riptide over to the Wii U makes more sense now and hopefully once the next console generation kicks off in full force, the company will decide to make its games available on Nintendo’s latest platform. Here’s hoping anyway.

Dead Island Riptide will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on April 23.

Oh no. I really wanted to play this generic zombie shooter that will never live up to the expectations of the trailer for the first game.

People keep saying wait 1 to 2 years and they will start making games for the wii u, I dont see that happening considering the next gen Sony and Microsoft consoles are coming out and they are far more powerful than their predecessors. And with that the game developers are gonna want to develop games using the newest and most powerful game engine and graphics which the previous consoles will not be able to handle, and the wii u is only as powerful as the xbox360 and ps3.

Yes, but do you really think that developers er going to want to invest in the massive production costs that it will take to develop for the new consoles, especially in an era where console gaming is quickly becoming a minority of gaming as a whole?

In that case wii u will do even worse it's consistently shown that its the worst nintendo console when it comes to sales and 3rd party support. but all I keep hearing is about developers gushing over the ps4 and how it was made for them, so it has the most potential so far.

Same ole same ole...regarding the console market Nintendo needs to be put out to pasture. This is getting ridiculous and quite frankly, embarrassing.

Dear Deep Silver, I don't mind a direct port of a game to the WiiU. By all means, port it to the WiiU. Nintendo needs the third party support.

Sincerely, your friendly-neighborhood Werdman.

Its unoptimized and would manage to be even buggier.

I'm still utterly confused at this point. Is Dead Island Riptide a sequel or not?
