Gamers who wanted to play Deep Silver properties on the their Wii U were disappointed earlier this week when they learned Saint’s Row IV wouldn’t be ported to Nintendo’s next-gen console. Well, they were let down again earlier this weekend, as it was confirmed Dead Island: Riptide will not be released on the console either.
During an interview with Digital Spy
, creative producer Alexander Toplansky said in order for the developers to build a Wii U version, they’d have to either directly port it or the game’s engine would have to be completely rewritten, which they didn’t have time to do given how much development time was spent improving the engine they already have.
"Neither one of those was a satisfactory outcome for us, so we decided to do what we got platform-wise and just make sure that we can deliver the best experience we can."
Well, Deep Silver’s decision to not bring either Saint’s Row IV or Riptide over to the Wii U makes more sense now and hopefully once the next console generation kicks off in full force, the company will decide to make its games available on Nintendo’s latest platform. Here’s hoping anyway.
Dead Island Riptide will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on April 23.
