Don't expect a Call of Duty movie anytime soon

1/14/13 12:02pm

Gamers hoping for Activision to bring their most iconic franchise to the big screen will be disappointed, as the company's CEO , Bobby Kotick, stated in a recent article, that the publisher has no plans for a Call of Duty movie adaptation.

As New York Times report, Activision was asked by several companies to turn the blockbuster franchise into a movie. But, Kotick stated in the article that...

"Movies based on videogames rarely please devoted fans and could taint the brand."

As for tainting the brand, many other game franchises have made leap to the big screen, some of which include Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, and even Super Mario Bros. While these movies were below par movie-wise, their failure on the silver screen barely 'tainted' the franchises success, as all these games are still performing very well today.

But what do you think g1s? Is Activision making a good decision? Or are they missing out on a great opportunity? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

So sad. It would have been a great idea if they will pursue it. - Aldo Todini

Even if they did make a movie, I bet that it would be like the Expendables or something.

i think what they are really trying to say is "nobody has offered us a trillion dollars to turn this into a movie yet"

They could do anything with this movie. People don't play the games for the story, they play for the multiplayer. All the actors could be chimps.

If they did make Chimp of Duty I would go see that.

Chimps of Duty. That would be an Oscar winning movie indeed. I can see it now. Really obnoxious chimps no-scoping and camping and jumping around like idiots. :P

No one, I mean no one would pay money to see CoD movie.

With the constant revenue CoD has been having, it's practically pop culture. I mean, people still go and watch the Resident Evil films, so I bet the CoD film should they go through with this might be a best seller.

Gramers, 12-year olds, bro's, and blind fanboys would.

Wait, I cannot comprehend this...Activision said "no"...to MONEY?! I mean, I know that money-whoring is EA's thing, but THIS!?!? But seriously, a movie of Call of Duty would be crap, but at least they have the intelligence to figure that out
