EA contradicts itself by claiming interest in Reckoning 2 months after passing on it
During an interview with Game Informer, EA president Frank Gibeau was asked about Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and if the publisher would be interested in backing a sequel. Gibeau gave this simple answer, "We'd love to be a partner for that.”
But before any of you fans of the original begin to get your hopes too high, there’s a fairly large contradiction in this statement.
Soon after the interview, Game Informer asked an anonymous member of the game’s development team about the likelihood of a Reckoning sequel, he/she said it isn’t very likely because "[Electronic Arts] had first right of refusal and passed back in March."
Did EA have a change of heart? Or did Gibeau simply forget about the previous decision? For fans of the series and for the members of the development team who have yet to find work after the Big Huge Games closure, I'm hoping for the change of heart.
The artstyle and character designs in Kingdom of Amalur was so dull! How can you turn it into a franchise if you keep the same boring style?
i keep losing more and more faith in EA...
Probably just a slip up but then again its EA and they have a habit of saying or doing dumb things. Although if a sequel were to be made, EA would need to buy the rights of the series from the government of Rhode Island who owns it.
YOU DON'T SAY!
Indeed, a very interesting coincidence.
if only EA, knew when to keep its mouth shut but i must admit, it was rather amusing when ea threw an origin sale within the same month of them saying that
EA contradicting itself? Par for the course. Remember when they said huge sales cheapen IPs and they would never do that with Origin, then totally did that with Origin. Yeah.
