EA reveals Dead Space 3's microtransactions prices.

2/1/13 9:00pm

EA has previously announced that their upcoming Dead Space 3 will indeed include microtransactions, in which players will have the option to “enhance” their game experience with the purchase of new suits, weapons, and a variety of other packs. For those interested in the cost of these additions, the PlayStation Store recently listed all available DLC along with their price tag.

The extra content ranges from weapon to skin packs, but the most noticeable of the bunch is the $9.99 online pass which players will need if they want to access Dead Space 3’s highly anticipated online co-op mode. Here’s the rest of the content…

  • Bot Capacity Upgrade $4.99
  • Bot Personality Pack $4.99
  • First Contact Pack Free
  • Marauder Pack $4.99
  • Sharpshooter Pack $4.99
  • Tundra Recon Pack $4.99
  • Witness the Truth Pack $4.99
  • Bot Accelerator $4.99
  • Epic Weapon & Resource Pack $2.99
  • Online Pass $9.99
  • Ultra Weapon & Resource Pack $1.99
  • Resource Pack $0.99

Now I know it’s easy to hate on EA for this, but keep in mind that it’s ultimately the player’s decision, as EA has included the micotransaction option in many of their previous games. In fact, g1 logicallydashing offers up an interesting read on the topic and it’s place in retail games that you can read right here.

So g1s, what do you think? Will Dead Space 3's extra content be getting your cash? Or will you spend more time fighting off EA’s money grabbing hands then Necromorphs? Let me know in the comment section below!

That costs WAY too much.

Overall, the guy made a mistake and has surely learned his lesson. Don't tear his head off. Just remember: proofread over and over before confirming anything.

It's not a large deal if he misspelled only one word; I don't think anyone is going to tear his head off for it. The rest of the article is good.

As for the microtranscations... these are pretty expensive. I won't be purchasing any of them and will still probably pick up the game, but EA is being kind of greedy here.

Remember: it's = it is. Its = possessive.

"...but the most noticeable of the bunch is the $9.99 online pass which players will need if they want to access Dead Space 3’s highly anticipated online co-op mode."

False. Absolutely 100% false.

From IGN: "Finally, as is becoming woefully commonplace these days, an online pass will be available for $9.99 so you can play online if you haven't bought a new copy of the game."

I don't know how you fucked this up, but I'm not impressed. This has been the standard with EA games for a while now; why they'd make the online pass unavailable in new copies is ludicrous and something that would've made headlines a while ago. I don't stand for EA; I stand for truth, and this article is misinforming readers, something I personally cannot respect. You're right, it IS easy to hate on EA; but hating them for things they didn't do is simply unjust.

He's simply stating that the game is going to have the awful online pass. He didn't say you'd have to get it regardless if it's new.

He implied that you had to buy it when he pointed out that it was "the most noticeable of the bunch," even though these are nothing new.

Sorry man. I ment to edit that part, but by the time a returned to the article it was already promoted, thus not allowing me to edit. But I just want to make this clear that you are right and only second hand buyers will have to purchase the online pass. I stand for the truth as much as you do, and believe me it's tough trying to fix a mistake like this. So I hope everybody sees this or SA updates the article so everybody knows.

I understand, and I admit that I may have overreacted, but I'm more disappointed at the news editors who promote stories. They should have seen that mistake and made it a point to change it.

The online pass is only if you buy a used game. That's nothing new with EA games. What rock have you been living under?
