The EA Vs Zynga lawsuit has been settled

2/17/13 8:40pm

As you may remember, publishing giant Electronics Arts sued social gaming powerhouse Zynga last August for copyright infringement, claiming Zynga’s The Ville was a knock off of The Sims Social. This resulted in Zynga launching a counter-suit, claiming EA was illegally prevent its employees from jumping ship to Zynga.

There’s been some bitterness and animosity between the two parties over these past few months but they managed to put everything aside and have agreed settle the case out of court.

Which side got better deal in the settlement? Well, I can’t tell you because I don’t know. In fact, no one knows. Neither party has discussed the nature of settlement publicly.

The only known details about the settlement are that it was reached in a Northern California District court and neither side can bring their claims to court again.

If I may editorialize for a moment, I’m going to go ahead and assume EA received a decent bit money. You know, for obvious reasons.

Zynga now is copying board games. What makes it worse is that the have Hasbro to back them on those board games. The sooner this company is gone the better.

To be fair, most people at Zynga don't deserve the success they deserve, what, with manipulating the casual market and infringing upon others copyrights with their copycat designs. At least EA comes up with some original games in addition to their yearly Madden/FPS to compete against Call of Duty. And don't get me wrong, EA's corporate structure is awful, but at least they have competent developers who deserve the credit they earned, just as EA deserves it mediocre reputation for trying to penny and nickel every cent from its customers

Why should EA die? They make like 25% of this generation's AAA games.

And the winner is still no one because both companies have terrible ethics.
