Engage: Star Trek Timelines announced for mobile devices
Star Trek fans can prepare to explore strange new worlds, seek out new life, new civilizations and boldly go where no one has gone before in the recently announced Star Trek Timelines. With other video game adaptations of the successful franchise exploring MMORPG and FPS territory, Timelines looks to harken back to what makes Trek great in the first place in addition to including a slew of beloved characters.
Set to be developed by appropriately named Disruptor Beam – the studio of last year’s mobile/social title, Game of Thrones Ascent – Star Trek Timelines promises “an immersive exploration system” with “diverse star systems,” along with a “detailed tactical system where you make decisions in the course of conflict resolution,” as opposed to a more action oriented experience, said CEO Jon Radoff,
Sticking with gameplay, exploration looks to be an undoubtedly important aspect, as Radoff went on to say the Strategy Role-Playing Game will feature crafting and development systems along with a galaxy that feels “as large as our actual galaxy.” A crew to help the player explore, however, can be handpicked from characters of The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise, with each character bringing their own strengths to the table.
In terms of story, though, the relationship of these unique characters is something that will also be implemented, as this allows the developer the “opportunity to explore a lot of ‘what-if’ scenarios.” Moreover, Timeline’s story will be penned by former Dragon Age and Star Wars: The Old Republic writers, and will include “decisions that impact the future of civilizations, star systems and the galaxy itself.”
Star Trek Timelines is currently on course to IOS and Android devices, yet doesn’t have a release date, as Disruptor Beam wants to “take the time to get it right.” Furthermore, as with many mobile titles, various social features will be implemented through the ability to “take on big challenges through cooperation.”
So, g1s what do you think? Will you beam Timelines on to your smart device? Or is this new world too strange for you? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below!
