Everyone be cool, Prey 2 isn’t cancelled

4/19/12 3:00pm

Anyone worried about the state of Prey 2 (like me) can rest a little easier tonight. Despite rumors of it being canned, it appears they may have been premature. Bethesda says developer Human Head is still working on the project, but it wouldn’t be making the 2012 launch. In a statement to VG247, Bethesda felt that “quality standards” were not being met.

“The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want.”

This game was revealed last March and we even had a chance to see it at Quakecon last year. If I could describe it in a few words, think of it as one part Blade Runner, two parts Boba Fett, shaken up in a wholly original alien universe. Thank god this game isn’t cancelled. We’ll tell you more as we get closer to next year.

Oh thank good. This is way better than cancellation. Too many games coming out this year. A delay like this is good in more ways than one.

Sad face. But at least this means they care and promises at least a decent game.

"Their quality stanards?" Does that mean that it doesn't have enough bugs?

It fills me with hope when developers are delaying the release date so they can meet and exceed their standards. At least I know there's still honor and commitment in the video game industry.

Oh, well I'm fine with that. Always good to hear developers taking some more time to polish the game.
